Okay so. Milo Rebane. The thing that gets me about Milo Rebane is that he is just Milo Greer. Kinda. Sort of. Let me explain.
We don't know much, canonically about Milo Rebane. We know that he is part of the Rebane Clan, with Sam and Porter (maybe Vince? I can't remember, and I'm sleepy--edit: I'm listening to the audio now and I think the implication is that Milo is taking over Vince's role? The fact that a lot of his first audio is reminiscent of Vinces's first--anyway). We know that he was in the Talbot pack. We know that his dad was still an investigator. He's still caring, snapping out of that flirty vampire prince persona the second that Sweetheart needed him. A lot of the pieces are there. The pieces of Milo Greer. Which, I guess kinda makes sense? Considering that he was Milo Greer before the turning? Like, yeah it's fooliverse but it's similar enough.
ANYWAY. What I think happened was his turning (obviously but SHH let me explain).
What catches my attention is the line in the first fooliverse video where Milo says "I didn't fuck with [the Department] when my deadbeat human dad worked for them, I didn't fuck with them when they dropped my ass through the cracks in the system after he drank himself to death, and I sure as hell don't fuck with them now." (Which side tangent--so funny he says that and then sleeps with Sweetheart, and also so funny that he says "what a night with the crown prince of the house Rebane" and its implied they'll never see each other again only to confess in the most recent fooliverse--ANYWAY) This line has always been so intriguing to me. Because, to me, it reveals a few things. 1) Colm is dead--presumably because of his gambling/drinking addiction. 2) Marie is out of the picture somehow. I like to say she's also dead because Angst. 3) He was some kinda orphan situation, though when exactly that is is unclear. I promise this has a point and here it is: Milo was in a tumultuous time of his life, struggling with no parents for a while. IF we are to assume that Milo Rebane is to "replace" Vincent, in the context of story beats, then we can also assume that he was turned young--I'm thinking early 20s, same as vince. I am ALSO thinking that the whole "I asked to be turned" thing (which was said in a ba?? i can't remember I haven't been subbed to the patreon in a year, and its not in the two public audios but i remember SOMETHING) I think that, in an attempt to control his life, Milo had asked Dimitri to turn him. He wanted power. He wanted to be the person controlling what happened, and being a vampire is a very effective way to do that. He is really hard to kill. Strong. Influential. He was turned by a vampire king after all, and usually those guys are old and don't have a lot of vamp children (I CANNOT remember the name rn its like 11 PM). Which also means that he has an advantage over most vamps.
I forgot where I was going with this so SWEETHEART TIME!!
Sweetheart is a bit more hit or miss. The fact that they were on their first mission to find Quinn Fox (dumb fucking last name btw) is... interesting. I don't know what to make of it, but I do think that I have some ideas on how they became an investigator. And it's the fucking cliche "because they want to make a difference" bull, but I do genuinely think that's why they're there. They're passionate about what they do in this AU. They're just not the strongest stealth around (implied) that or the department just hates them because it knows that they'll be a problem. Because they're kind. Because they care deeply about what they do, and bringing justice to people. I think that Milo saying they should rethink their career in the first audio really crushed them. Yeah, they're nervous, and freak out a lot, but they're new!! can you blame them!! this department thing is like really hard!!
Here's where it gets interesting: their dynamic together. There is a DISTINCT shift in their dynamic by the most recent HBS audio that we got, they practically switched places. In the first audio Milo is seen as really flirty, and confident, and knows that Sweetheart is into him. In the first audio, Sweetheart is nervous (and pretending not to be), practically passes out, and is so bad at their job that it got called out. In the SECOND audio, Milo is flustered to hell and back by the mere presence of Sweets, he is stutter-y and nervous. Sweets on the other hand, assuming that at least SOME time has gone by considering the fact that they're now marked by Milo (before even dating which is--you know what Im not gonna comment on that), they're foreward, taking advantage of Milo's flustered-ness for their amusment/teasing purpses (much like Milo in the first), and are a lot more flirty with him in this.
*takes a deep breath* okay so its really late but i wanna finish this so here's some bulleted hcs for what happened in between.
Milo and Sweets get closer (obvi)
Milo (despite advising not to at every chance he gets) does support Sweets in their career at the Department, and watches as they gain some stability in their position
The Department is activley trying to get rid of Sweets in one way or another (could be targeting, could be 'breaking in the newbies' or whatever)
Milo marks Sweets three months into knowing them, after a close call they had on a case. He said it would keep them safe. It does, kinda.
The more time Sweets spends with Milo, the more confident they become. The more that Milo spends time with Sweets, he learns to let down some of those "Vampire Prince" walls he hides behind.
Milo started to realize he like-likes Sweetheart like four months in, or just after he marked them.
Sweetheart knew what they wanted a month and a half in, just thought that Milo would never want to be with them like that. They were ecstatic when he confessed.
They confessed almost a year later. Because they're gay and stupid.
Sweetheart spends a LOT of time at Milo's place, practically also living there. Milo doesn't mind. The place was too big for just him anyway.
This is not in between the two audios but one thing i do think is that Milo is a very lonely guy after becoming a vamp, even though that was supposed to be fixed with his turning (it doesn't work that way)
Milo sometimes spends a bit of time in Sweets apartment, usually if he needs a break from the Rebane's and Vamp society in general
he finds it refreshing
Sweetheart will take whatever they can get
They do hook up, sometimes, not always. Sweets has offered themselves up for feeding more time than these guys have sex before the confession (after the confession... yeah m not finishing that)
