Gwen’s trek home normally consisted of meandering along alleyways and slinking towards her destination via whichever route held less human interaction. It had to be altered from her former path, of course, but she quickly discovered that the housing she had actually been assigned to was more accessible anyway. Silver linings and all that bullshit. Today, however, she absentmindedly followed a more popular course with her eyes cast downwards at the concrete whilst her mind lost itself in thought. It was only the closing of a door a block away which aroused her instincts to the present, and at the sight she felt her heart practically squeeze itself into implosion beneath a narrow ribcage. He was leaving someone’s house. Somehow her eyes refused to leave his profile until footsteps slowed entirely, halting in their tracks at the image of him approaching head on. Was she so easy to forget? To move on from? Did he hate her that much for what she’d done? “Looks like someone is enjoying himself.” The blonde attempted to ignore the subtle lilt in her tone, a jealous edge she had not intended to voice aloud.
