STAR WARS EPISODE II: Attack of the Clones 00:52:24
Though never explicitly named as members of the Cuy'val Dar, El-Les and Bric from The Clone Wars are two of the mercenaries training the Clone Army on Kamino - so that is a bit of speculation on my part, but I think it makes sense. If anything comes out to contradict that I'll amend it as needed.

Following on from my Jango post, I want to talk about the Cuyâval Dar.
The same warning as that post applies. This is largely my speculations based on canon, but not actually canon.
A note about Legends canon: Unless it is directly contradicted by the current canon, I choose to include Legends canon as canon.
So, the Cuyâval Dar (Mandoâa meaning those who are lost) are the trainers Jango recruited to train the clones on Kamino. There were one hundred of these trainers, and seventy five of those one hundred were Mandalorians. The other twenty five were probably bounty hunters and general mercenaries.
Of the seventy five Mandos, we only know the names of 12 of them. Two, Isabet Reau and Dred Priest, were Death Watch sympathizers if not full on members. The other 10 have no stated allegiance but itâs my speculation that at least some of them were True Mandaloriansďżźďżź under Jaster and Jango.
There are two whom I am almost certain were True Mandalorians. Kal Skirata is said to have known Jango for years, so he was obviously at least affiliated with the True Mandalorians. He was found by his adopted father, Munin Skirata, when Munin was on a mission with a group of mercenaries. My guess is those mercenaries were Jasterâs people, and possibly even included Jaster himself.
Rav Bralor was a close friend and comrade in arms of Kal Skirataâs long before Kamino, so obviously if he is a True Mandalorian, it stands to reason that she must have been one too.
There are two others who are potentially True Mandalorians. Llats Ward isnât stated to have any particular affiliation but his chest plate has a whacking great mythosaur skull on it, which is the sigil of the True Mandalorians. Of course, itâs also just a generally important symbol in Mando culture, so Llats could have it on his armour for entirely different reasons.
Miij Gilmar, the trainer of the clone medics, wasnât born a Mando but became one after he married a Mandalorian woman. She was murdered, unfortunately and he vowed revenge. Itâs noted that he had a deep hatred for the death watch allied Dred Priest and Isabet Reau. My speculation is that his wife was killed by Death Watch and he may have joined (or already have been part of) the True Mandos to avenge her.
There is one more trainer I want to discuss in detail. His name is Cort Davin, and he was a Journeyman Protector on Concord Dawn. Obviously this is the same profession as Jaster and Fett Sr, so this suggests he may have been a colleague of theirs. It does seem that he stayed in the Journeyman Protectors until he was recruited into the Cuyâval Dar, so I donât think he was a proper member of the True Mandos, but he could have been their ally.
We know virtually nothing of the remaining five named Mandos of the Cuyâval Dar, Bâarin Apma, Swart Swifto, Wadâe Tayhaai, Vhonte Tervho and Walon Vau. I have no idea if any of these people were True Mandalorians. Itâs possible.
A side tangent about Wadâe Tayâhaai: one of the few things I could find about him is that his preferred weapons were a traditional Mando spear and a besâbav. A besâbav is a Mandalorian flute that doubles as a stabbing weapon. Of course the Mandos have a musical instrument that is also a weapon. Of course they do. It makes me wonder how many other musical weapons exist in Mando culture. And how many other things Mandos have made into weapons. Many, many things probably.
Anyways, this brings me onto the point of this post: why would any True Mandalorians would agree to train the clones despite it going against their well established code of protection over children? And how did Jango feel about these people that were once his?
Itâs my personal speculation that any True Mandalorians that joined the Cuyâval Dar on Kamino did so for a number of reasons. The New Mandalorian pacifists were in charge on Mandalore, so anyone wishing to keep their culture couldnât stay there. I canât imagine that Mandalorians are welcomed in many places in the galaxy, so itâs possible some of them joined because it guaranteed a place to live and a source of income and food.
Some might have joined out of loyalty to Jango. Perhaps they thought he wouldnât allow the clones to be treated badly and by the time it became apparent that he would, they couldnât back out. Perhaps they wanted to help him and therefore help the clones.
I doubt any of them were actually told what they were being recruited for. It was a secret, after all, and I donât think telling a bunch of Mandalorians âthereâs a facility where theyâre cloning children to be trained as child soldiers for a war in which theyâre likely to dieâ would go well.
Honestly, I just find the Cuyâval Dar quite interesting. Who are these people? Why did they agree to come to Kamino? What did they feel about the clones?
:3 may I please request Mij being lovingly needled by his supposedly professional colleagues about his and Sparâs potential/lack of relationship; or I am always down for Ordo/Maze, whatever you see fit
I had a lot of trouble figuring this one out, for a while, and then I was writing Cort and Mij talking about Jango and Spar and this happened.
***
âThey really act like siblings,â Cort says, watching the tihaar in his glass.
âAs far as what theyâre concerned, they are, thanks to what theyâve chosen to do about the memory transfer,â Mij says, sitting down next to him once heâs put the bottle away. He wonders how long it took before Jango was willing to let Cort see the both of them like that.
Cort grimaces and sips the clear liquor. âWe were both younger siblings when we first met. Then his aliit was gone, and now...now he has a tatâka himself.â
Mij hums. He hasnât ever asked either Fett about memories of the pastâhe knows only what heâs picked up from overhearing or what Sparâs told him about. âIt bothers you.â
Cort groans. ââLek. It does. It isnât right, it isnât natural.â
âItâs the Force,â Mij drawls. âItâs tra and kar. Itâs natural, itâs right. Itâs just not normal.â
âYou say that as if the Force cannot be used for unnatural things,â Cort shoots back.
âDo you think either of them would have made it do this?â he counters. âItâs something that would have had to be done purposefully, if it was unnatural.â
âThis entire place is unnatural.â Cort sighs. âI just worry that itâs something about here that did it.â
Possibly, but Mij considers the likelihood of that. And the likelihood that Jango didnât investigate just that chance. âI trust them, that they can tell thereâs no one else playing with their minds. The only tigaanâad weâve seen from the outside has been Jango himself. And I donât think he likes himself enough to do this wilfully.â
Cort grumbles, but canât say anything against that.
Quietly, Mij adds, âIâd never heard Jango speak of his past, before Spar.â
Cort knocks back half the glass of tihaar. âI hadnât heard him do so since we were teenagers,â he agrees. He looks over at Mij. âSo whatâs the story with you and Spar?â he asks.
Mij flushes. âIâm just his doctor.â
Cort scoffs. âYou know, you light-skinned humans always flash back and forth in colours so face. You want to run that by me again, Gilamar?â
Mij glares at him. âIâm not going to risk my professional relationship with Spar just because Iâm attracted to him.â
Cort raises an eyebrow. âJust Spar?â
He rolls his eyes. âYes. Just Spar. I have no interest in Jango or any of the other clones.â
Cort huffs. âJango knows about your thing for his tatâka?â
âYes,â Mij says tersely, focusing on his own cup again. âHe thinks itâs funny.â
The bark of laughter Cort lets out is, Mij thinks, the first bit of humour heâs ever heard from him. âAnd what does Spar think?â
âSpar doesnât know.â
âYou really think Jangoâd not discuss it with him?â Cort asks.
Mij pales. Of course Jango would; heâs an idiot.
Cort laughs again. âBack and forth,â he mutters, grinning. âReally, kid. If Jango thinks itâs funny, heâs probably talked it over with him, and heâs probably okay with it. It wouldnât hurt to communicate with him a bit.â
âLike how you communicate with Jango?â he counters.
Cort goes quiet. âKid,â he says, tone dangerous.
âDonât âkidâ me,â Mij hisses back. âYouâre in my apartment, drinking my tihaar, and if youâre going to bring up my relationship with one of the siblings Iâm damn well going to bring up yours with the other.â
Cort finishes the tihaar and sets the cup down on the table.
Mij watches him walk out without a goodbye.
Heâs expecting that to be the end of it, but the next morning Cort puts him in a headlock in the kitchen.
âI talked to him,â the older man says cheerfully. âYour turn, osiâka.â
For Day 5 of @jangobiweek, Competency Kink. I ended up doing it as a follow up to my fic Bring You Golden Rings (Only Want Your Hand To Hold) (which can also be found here and here (part 2) for those who donât have an AO3 or just want to read it on tumblr)
âI just donât get it,â Cort Davin said from where he was leaning against the wall with Jango, âwhatâs so special about him?â
Jango followed his gaze to the other side of the room where Obi-Wan was charming the target. Â The Kaâra had seen fit to, once again, align one of Jangoâs bounties with a mission of Obi-Wanâs. Â So of course, his riduur had decided to help.
âJust watch,â Jango said with a smirk, eyes tracking his riduur.
Small gods, but he hoped the slicers Vos had recommended figured out the truth behind the Clones quickly. Â He wanted to spend more time watching his riduur work. Â It was intoxicating.
Obi-Wan laughed at something that was said by the target. Â He spoke to him, what Jango couldnât say, the angle was wrong to read his lips. Â But no doubt it was something clever and charming.
Something fit for the Negotiator to say.
Obi-Wan started to lead the target over, an easy win for them with the target willingly coming.
Which was when something went wrong. Â Because of course it did.
Another patron, one in ostentatious clothing, stood in their way. Â The man said something to Obi-Wan and Jango could see his riduurâs eyes narrow and his body tense.
The target pulled away from Obi-Wan and their hissed curse was actually loud enough to be heard throughout the cantina.
âJedi.â
Which meant that there was an equal number of folks who did a mad scramble for the doors as there were those who got out weapons.
Because of course the criminal scum Jango was after would hide in a cantina full of criminals.
Obi-Wanâs saber lit up as he easily blocked the barrage of blaster-fire sent at him. Â He pulled the target back with the Force and held onto them as he effectively moved through the cantina. Â He Force pushed a few out of the way and then was outside.
Not that that stopped the brawl that had been created by so many different criminals fighting.
Jango pushed off the wall and pointed his flamethrower to the ceiling. Â It stopped the fighting as most looked towards him.
âGet out of my way,â Jango told them. Â He didnât have to say more. Â The criminals just assumed he meant he would use the flamethrower on them if they didnât comply and parted before him.
Cort followed.
âAlright, I might have a bit of a better idea now.â
âYou should see him when he is in full Negotiator mode. Â Itâs meshâla.â
âAnd youâve made your claim quite clear. Â I saw the kad in his boot. Â And the komârk with your sigil.â
âThereâs more but he thinks armor is restrictive. Â It was difficult to find pieces that would aid in his work that heâd wear but counted for the riduurokâaka.â
Cort grinned then.
âI heard from Zam that it was going no where even with your careful choices.â
Jango grumbled wordlessly as they joined Obi-Wan and the target.
âTo be fair,â Obi-Wan said to Cort, surprising the Journeyman even as Jango let his smugness leak into their Bond, âI was expecting a Young style courtship. Â Where youâre rather straightforward about the whole thing. But Jango was wonderfully romantic.â

Oooooooooooo Jango/Cort for 3. I just told you I liked you but now Iâm shy and say ânever mind, forget itâ and why are you looking at me like that?
Kamino era confessions uwu
Jango says it in a kind of bleary delirium that only comes from a long day chasing pre-teens around and being thankful that he ground weapon etiquette into them so early on. His initial plan for the night had been the kind of time with Cort that left his thighs burning. But Cort had taken one look at him and set him on the sofa, the older Concordian sitting with him and stroking fingers through his short waves.Â
Jango says it and regrets it immediately, hiding his face in the arm of the sofa. âSorry, never mind. Forget it.â
He can feel Cortâs eyes on him, and then his fingers on Jangoâs wrist. âJanâka,â he says, hoarse and breathy, and when Jango turns his head back he smiles. âIâve loved you since we were teenagers.â
Itâs the best thing he could have said in that moment.
Itâs the worst thing he could have said in that moment.
Jango hiccups.
He hasnât cried since Boba first called him âbubu.â He hasnât cried like this since Walon found him after he escaped the spice freighter.
Cort tugs him into his arms. âI should have told you back then,â he admits. âAnd now, here we are.â
Oooh, how about any of the cuy'val dar, or Jango, with hiraeth - a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return
Initial plan for these was to make them entirely character focused but this combined with a current WIP made me go "haha but what if." So.
6. hiraeth - a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past
Cortâs older siblings have the family vhetta. Sena went JP before he ever did. And, well, Cortâs dreams of a happy, normal life vanished ages ago.
Theyâd first flickered out when he was ten, and his family had learned of the Fett clan massacre. Theyâd barely existed back then, but heâd start to build them up like any foolish child whose heart beats fast does. Six years later, after heâd begun building new ones, theyâd all been pushed aside with the renewal of those early dream, with Jango Fettâs return to Concord Dawn.
The two of them had slowly built up dreams of later-later-later with each other, building and hoping andâin the endâpromising.
Jango had come back after being enslaved for years and fallen asleep in Cortâs bed, and those dreams were destroyed because he knew, from the scars and the hunted look in Jangoâs eyes, that he was never going to be able to do that. He still swore things to himself, but it all fell away from reality.
Sometimes, Jango still lets him come up behind him and hold him. Sometimes he doesnât, he jumps or he punches or he cries. The kid with Jangoâs memories always looks at him with pity and he can never meet the kidâs gaze very long.
He thought it would all work out, for a long time. As long as he was there, as long as he could hold on, as long as Jango was alive. As long-as long-as long.
Heâs been a fool for a long, long time. He canât stop now. Thereâs never going to be a yaim on a vhetta with family nearby, because the Fett vhetta burned. Thereâs never going to be happy children, because theyâre training soldiers, not raising them. Thereâs never going to be returned love, because slavery dug out all of the love Jango had before and the new love has fragile roots and is unrecognizable to what had been there before.
He still wants a home. He still wants happy children. But he still loves Jango. That, after all, outranks everything else.
