I’m trying to puzzle something out for something I’m writing, and I’m not quite sure how Danny’s ability turn from ghost to human works if his human body is in the activated portal.

I’ve got a few theories of my own, but I’m curious what other people would think. You’re an experienced Danny Phantom writer, so I was wondering if you had any ideas?

I'm actually not sure. I've written a number of Corpse AU fics, but I'm not sure if I've written one where Danny's body is found in the portal by other people. My Corpse AUs typically have the trio removing and hiding the corpse immediately after the accident.

A bodyswap soulmate AU with corpse AU.

Just imagine Danny trying to bury his own body, the shovel is his hands throwing mud and dirt over the hole with a clear view of his corpse; when suddenly he gets bodyswap with his soulmate.

That would be pretty hard to explain, especially to a vigilante who now is probably in panic that their soulmate just murdered a teenager. Should they help hide the body? That is their soulmate so it should be for a good reason their soulmate just killed someone, right? RIGHT?

Corpse AU where Danny is weirdly obsessed and extremely protective of his bones.

This becomes an issue when they are discovered and assigned as a John Doe. The ensuing murder investigation needs the bones since they are not just evidence but also the centerpiece of the case.

DO I? Oh my god yes i do. I'll list a few so you can see my brain sphere. 1. No One Knows AUs-I absolutely adore AUs where Danny went through the accident alone and is left to deal with this life altering experience on his own. Imagine trying to keep this huge thing a secret even from your closest friends who know something's up. The angst and conflicts that arise are so yummy to read and the reveals are always so gratifying once it happens. 2. Eldritch / Cryptid Danny- I adore when Danny's ghost form is unnerving, monstrous, and terrifying. Having him grapple with the fact that he's more ghost than human, that he's truly what his parents detest. People terrified of him when he's just trying to help adds even more to the angst bucket. I also love when obsessions can REALLY override his hind brain, where he's more animalistic in his fights and attacks with feral vigor. With this we go into the next AU

3. Ghost Hunger AUs- Ghost hunger is also a FUN one. Essentially Ghost Vampirism, Danny has to eat a ghost's core or their ectoplasmic innards to survive. It really pushes the am I more monster than man angstfest. Which is pretty much a recurring theme of what I like if you can tell. Add in him being terrified to let Tucker and Sam in on his secret of his new found cravings. Him grappling with starving himself of what his body needs, because if he does give in, he believes he is truly what his parents think he is: a monster.

4. Corpse AUs- Essentially a fully dead Danny where he either is piloting his own corpse or he leaves behind one and has to bury it. It feels so final and somber with this one. Like there's no halfa status, he can switch between appearances (but he's not alive at all, it's just for show.)
