Somehow I never seem to actually run on Global Running Day, so here's a photo from the Corporate Challenge a couple weeks ago. Of course I had to match my company shirt with my shorts and shoes!

It's the eve of the Corporate Challenge in Chicago. I deferred my morning run to the evening, partly due to threat of rain, partly to help acclimate to running later in the day. Kept my 6 miles nice and chill. I've got my company shirt and the rest of my outfit planned out. Weather is looking very good. Optimistically, I can finish 3.5 miles in 19:15, which would put me in the top 20 or so. Usually the thrill of big competition inspires my best performances. I'm stoked to say the least.

About what I thought I'd do. Without the three hairpin turns, I might have chopped off a few more seconds. I'm happy with how this turned out. Not sure what my final place was. Maybe they'll have that in the next few days. I started back about three rows from the line, and dudes just took off from the gun. I looked down at my watch about a quarter mile in and it said 5:10 pace. I slowed down a little and managed to overtake a lot of people from there on. Even chased down the first place woman in the last half mile. She must have really been blazing to be up that far.

Let's play some catchup: Officially, I finished 34th at the Corporate Challenge. My company doesn't have anyone close to me really, so we're not in the mix for a title. Funny thing is the two other companies I could have gone to last year had a couple good guys. It'll be interesting to see if my presence would have gotten either team the win. Took Friday off and ran 8 yesterday afternoon. I was going to run after my son's soccer game in the morning, but we ended up going to breakfast with my parents. My stomach full of french toast was not happy most of the time. This morning I did 16 at Waterfall Glen. I made an attempt at 7:00 pace, but the warm weather and lingering effects from Thursday's race took their toll. I averaged 7:11 overall with some fast, some slow miles. I did run way past the 8 mile marker before my Garmin beeped, enough that I kinda wonder which is more accurate.
