As I am studying for a BSc (Hons) @lincolncollegeuk to train as a clinical herbalist. Getting a chance to wander into @napiers1860 whilst in Edinburgh was an absolute joy.! Corn silk. I use it sometimes as a diuretic, particularly in some people whose kidneys are damaged or weak. Many herbal diuretics work by containing an acid that stimulates or irritates the kidneys and causes them to flush a lot of water. Corn silk is a little different because it is sweet, containing some mannitol and similar substances that draw water into the kidneys and inhibit reabsorption of water and sodium (at least i think that’s how it works; not sure about mannitol getting from the digestive tract to the kidneys). . . . . . #maize #maíz #corn #cornsilk #garden #organic #organicgardening #organicchemistry

I am not one to be wasteful, so both the husks and the cornsilk were saved. The husks have been set to dry, and will be used for future crafts; the cornsilk is saved for the apothecary, and is traditionally used for the health of the urinary tract in our traditional Curanderismo. Just look at beautiful and shiny it is 🥰.
