Ok, so in Coraline, the book, there is this line where the other mother swears on her right hand, and that has something to do with her hand getting dislodged from her body since she lied.
There is at least one instance of swearing on your sword arm in the httyd books. Alvin used Termagant to get to Grimbeard's coffin.
I think it would be so poetic, and fit the general vibe of the story, if Alvin swore on his sword arm something to Termagant along the lines of his intentions being pure or loving her, before losing his hand
