I saw your tags on my post about the EU Copyright Directive in Germany. I don’t know where you’re from and maybe you have German followers so that’s why I want to add that German Parliament agreed on making fics legal in Germany. That’s a victory. AO3 made a post about it.
But under their implementation of the directive that will start August 1, Germans’ ability to post will be limited to 160 characters of text, 125kb image and 15 secs of audio or video by the use of uploadfilters.
It’s up to other countries to implement that copyright directive as they basically want. I live in France and I can tell you they’re on the way of screwing us over way much worse than Germany. Specially knowing fics are considered illegal here. Plus the fact that our government has the intention of making uploadfilters mandatory.
What happens to fanworks (fics, fanart, etc) is basically up to your government when they make the decision about the law.
I’ll add two links of the posts I made. One about a site that allows you to follow the implementation of the law in your country, if you’re in EU of course > HERE
And this one is about what we know about the implementation in certain countries, so far we only know about Germany, France, Spain, Hungary and Denmark > HERE
I hope that helps. I’ve following this for over a year and I’m terrified of what the EU is doing to the internet.
