The side effect of this is Tumblr actively obscures trends in one of the most popular tv genres of all time, one that delivers effective propaganda and reflects common anxieties.
Its seen as a dirty thing, to watch "immoral" TV, so you can talk about how much you want to fuck a character in a cop show but not talk about the writing. Because that shows youre engaged.
A lot of people think it makes them better leftists to never watch a cop show, or some other propaganda piece like that, because what if they like it. The idea of watching something to gather information about what propaganda is being sold and how and understand why people believe certain things about the world around them just never occurs to them. That it might be useful to know the content of the art people turn their brains off to every night and not be afraid to talk about it.
