                “ oh hey, hold up a sec! ” it was an unusual burst of courage, but david called after his classmate just as their lecture let out. it had been boring as all hell, but the conversation they’d had between note pauses had kept him awake for most of it. he jogged a little to try and catch up to them, the desire to keep talking to them rising in him. “ are you headed somewhere in particular right now? ” he asked, eyes sparkling with hope.

                          “ i just thought maybe you’d uh... like to maybe, er, come to one of our shows? just, yanno, a thought... ”

                       “ you keep asking, and the answer is still no. ” david flipped through his notebook and flickered his eyes up at them. “ if you want to talk to her, do it yourself. i’m nobody’s ‘in’. ” his vision was back on his paper and pad, and he turned his music up slightly.

               david took a sip from his coffee and looked down at the table. “ ...i told you that was a bad idea a long time ago... ” he mumbled into it before promptly taking another brisk drink in hopes to drown out his thought. the other didn’t want to hear that, he knew, but he tended to get irritated when people asked for his advice then actively ignored it.

                          david had a long day, and he wanted nothing more in the world than to come home and just chill the fuck out. he could tell shane was at home and he was glad for it. she always had the best ways of getting him out of his head. he kicked off his boots and padded inside. “ shane? ” he called out, expected her to pop up any moment.

               “ ...hey, is-- is this a bad time? ”

           “ i-i-i... oh, wow... okay. please, tell me what to                 do, please, god, i don’t know what to do! ”

          “ hey um, i uh... would you like to maybe grab a                drink sometime? ”
