Anyone heard of the Converters, a competitor of transformers and Go-bots? Never got any fiction but the information on the back of the boxes paints a very rich setting.

There were multiple villainous and heroic factions, along with a mercenary faction as well.The villains are honestly far more terrifying than the Decepticons

You had a tank used by the military for training exercise revealing itself to be an alien sleeper agent, now working to help defend humanity.

Earth nations creating a secret army of transforming robots to protect supply lines, cities and coasts.

A superhero team of robot bird knights (plus one robot bat) who have come to Earth to help against invading robot insects. 

The invading robot insects, which terrifyingly seem quite methodical in their extermination of humanity.

Mercenaries alien robots that turned into cash registers, gambling machines, and household items.

“When you think bandit is on your side, he will turn on you.”

Finally The Maladroids. a military race that destroys for the sheer sake of destruction, but also the only ones explicitly mentioned to have a sense of family similar to humans ; and  are willing to allow robot mercenarys like Nofka into their ranks. The Maladroids mostly turn into starships ,spend most of time lurking in space explicitly have difficulty in low altitude combat forcing them to create a new smaller ofshoot of themselves. Design wise, they are Autobot Jetfire’s evil extended family.

Unlike Transformers or Go-bots, Select’s Converters line had no accompanying fiction... but what if they did in the form of a comic book?

To explore what that possibility would have been like, I drew this little throwback to classic comic book covers. 

Basically a follow-up to this.

A good maker story is not just about a clever build. It is about what the project teaches, what problem it solves and what curious readers can borrow for their own experiments.
