Imagine that we have banned all religion worldwide. Now imagine that you are part of an international secret police force tasked with enforcing this law.
There are four people in front of you:
Cardinal Peter Johnson is a Catholic archbishop who heads the Archdiocese of Urbs Falsa. You have evidence that he has been secretly holding religious services since the ban was enacted. He even attempted to convert an undercover officer.
Nadine is Muslim. She practices her faith alone and in private. She does not talk about her faith or acknowledge that she is Muslim unless asked. However, when you do ask, she admits to everything.
Alex is Jewish. They openly identify with Humanistic Judaism, which is a secular Jewish movement. They continue to participate in Jewish traditions like Passover and their sonβs bar mitzvah, but they view them primarily as cultural traditions. Furthermore, the Humanistic Jewish services they partake in frame these traditions in terms of how they relate to the human experience, not divine or supernatural experiences.
Morgana is a witch. She casts spells, reads tarot cards, and partakes in moon rituals. She believes these practices have supernatural effects and views them as essential parts of her spirituality. However, she does not consider herself part of any organized religion. She partakes in these spiritual practices alone and in private, and she does not discuss them with others unless asked.
You must arrest everyone who violates the law β no exceptions. However, you have not been given any guidelines about how to interpret the law. As such, it is up to you to decide what constitutes illegal activity under this law.
You must make your decision based on the standards that you think best reflect the meaning of the phrase βAll religion is banned.β
