Not every painting begins with an idea. Sometimes it begins with a material.
A pigment. A textured surface. A layer that disappears. A crack that only reveals its meaning much later.
In my studio, I rarely follow a fixed plan. Each painting evolves through an ongoing dialogue with the materials—layer by layer. Every change leaves a trace. Every decision opens a new possibility.
Perhaps the true story of a painting is not found in the finished work, but in everything the process allows to remain visible.
You can read more about this philosophy in my latest blog post.
This space is an invitation to slow down the gaze. To linger in between – where words fade and material begins to speak. Welcome.
The lack of relationship between humans and nature 2025
Vinyl glove, Hypnum cupressiforme, Thread @ Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dale
I have often described my work as ‘focusing on the relationship between humans and nature.’
However, while staying in Norway, I met artists who work directly with nature through hunting, fishing, and harvesting, and I felt that I wanted to reconsider my previous statement.
I now believe that I can describe my work as focusing on ‘the lack of relationship between humans and nature.’
Vinyl gloves are a symbol of humanity. For me, who struggled with OCD/obsessive-compulsive disorder, they were an indispensable item at the time.
In this work, I explore the human attempt to control plants and the vitality of plants that spread despite this. I would like to add that this is only one aspect of the relationship between humans and plants.
