Place Holder [September 2017, Brooklyn]
I had attempted for a moment to include a piece y'all loved, but I wasn't as much a fan of, and the Bonnie Raitt song came to mind, I Can't Make You Love Me, cause I just didn't love the image, and even the pretense of me writing about it, felt wrong, and so I deleted the document and decided to focus on an image I love, but y'all are lukewarm about. Sometimes it bees like that. #🤷🏿♂️
The construction in #5 started sometime in November '16 according to the photos I took from the time, of the stripped down bulkhead, and the stripping of the roof. I of course took these as opportunities to take photos. There are are also some shots of me in the fully gutted building. Obviously there weren't more because I was still feeling very tentative about trespassing on to this construction site, clearly later on this wasn't an issue. I only wish I had thought to take some photos in the previous building before it was gutted. At that time I did enter it, but wasn't of a mind to document my illegal entries. Mind you, the workers left the roof door open, the least I did was try it, as I had so many of the bulkhead doors of my connecting rooftop neighbors.
Our featured shot today was taken in '17 close to a year from when the actual construction had begun, the loose structure of the building had been restored with all new materials, and the units were beginning to look more like apartments, and not just open space with closets. By this time it was a daily occurrence for me to sneak into the building and spend time there until seven o'clock when the workers started their shift. I had explored every floor including the basement, utilizing each and every nook and cranny as a potential photoshoot location, some with better results than others. I think the few basement shots in which the only light source was incandescent bulbs was some of the weakest work from the Trespassing subset, just because it wasn't easy for me to work with man-made light when I hadn't really done so in the past.
Tourists walking along construction fence: "Is this a restaurant? We've seen the sign."
Me, looking left, looking right, thinking: "Does this look like a restaurant to you?"
The "restaurant" in question:
