The Fear I feel is deep-rooted, stemming from past trauma. My eyes see things In daily life as a potential threat because, at some point, everything was. The fear has been present for years. In survivor mode, I fought or went somewhere else in my head when afraid. Now I'm present, and I panic sad part is it's not a real threat anymore. It just resembles one from my past. Self-care is more than bubble baths, yoga, listening to calm music, and drinking water. Sometimes you need to add time-alone, a bowl of weed, a bottle of whiskey, a good steak dinner, cry your eyes out, and dance to rock music in underwear. Don't judge a person for needing this or tell someone that's not self-care—it all depends on what you need to get through. Reposted from @somaticexperiencingint Repost from @lauraandersontherapy • I used to be terrified of anger. I was taught that anger was a sin and that a “good christian girl” shouldn’t feel anger. So for decades I did not allow myself to go there--fearing the consequences for myself and others if I dared to let myself feel this “deadly” emotion. In my own healing work though, I have learned again and again not only the necessity of anger but how empowering and healing anger can be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The way I describe anger to my clients is that anger is the emotion we feel when something important to us (like ourselves, our values, our people, our priorities) are violated. Anger shows us that what happened was not ok. It shows us that we may need to do something in order to make it right, or safer, or more stable. Though emotions don’t need to make sense in order to be felt, it would make sense that someone feels anger if they find out that the bill of goods they thought was the foundation to their life actually is not. Anger makes sense when someone you trusted has harmed or abused you and you are able to see it for what it is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we listen to our anger and allow it to work its way through us, we often find the things that are the most valuable to us or the things we are the most passionate about. I would invite you to consider: if your anger had a voice, what would it say? What would it do?
