Intro Blogpost is Up :)
Hey, hi, hello! I'm Liam Taylor and I am trans*. I am 17 years old and I've used to struggle with my " identity" if you will. I never really knew what the deal was with "identity" and labels. For as long as I can remember, everyone and everything had some type of label. Anyway, going back to the fact that I, like many people, have struggled with their identity. As I already said I am 17 years of age and I have had my fair share of struggles with my identity. The past 2 years have been the worst. Since I was fifteen, I started to feel weird or I felt like my body wasn't right. I never knew what it was, but I just felt like something was off. (keep in mind, I did in fact struggled a lot in middle school and that awkward puberty stage, just as much as anyone).
Continuing on to two years ago. I knew what the word "Transgender" meant, but I just never thought anything of it. I never though that that's what I was.
For anyone who doesn't know what transgender means:
[Trans-gender] adj. Denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.
Basically, a person who is trans* doesn't feel like they identify as the gender they were assigned with at birth. (AMAB or AFAB).
Okay, so let's back up a little bit. I never thought that what I would identify as at the time. All I knew was that I was different in some way. However, in hindsight, I never gravitated towards "boy stuff" when I was a little tike, until I got to about 10-12 years old. That's when I really started getting upset and frustrated. It was between those ages that I realized something was "wrong". That's when I started to look at stuff that was geared toward little boys or guys. However, throughout this, I also kind of had crushes on boys AND girls. Like, oh my goodness, I liked BOTH boys and girls? Oh my, someone call the cops. Anyway. I think my older brother and sister caught onto everything a little faster than I thought. I honestly didn't even know they caught on or knew anything about this.
It wasn't until I turned 15, that I really started to look into every and all things LGBTQ+ related. I was so shocked to see and come across just how many things there were! There were these things that I didn't even know existed!! Like, holy nuts dude! So many different gender identities and sexualities. It was legit a rainbow of identities and orientations.
After about 2-2 1/2 years of experimenting and trying to gather myself and figure what I feel the closest to, gender wise, I finally came to terms with the fact that I am transgender. However, I know for a fact that my dad does not agree with the "lifestyle I have chosen." But my mom on the other hand, is far more understanding and I'm sure if I were to come out to her, she'd be one of those parents that will try to understand what their child is going through.
The only thing is... I haven't actually come out yet to anyone, that I personally know. But trust me when I tell you this, I am out to about 330 people on the internet and all 330 of those people accept me and love me for who I am. They're always there and they're always open to talk and listen when needed.
It's not that I am ashamed of who I am now, it is just I know how my dad will react. He has a huge things against "those people" and unfortunately I do not think that that will change. So for now, I will have to play it safe and keep quiet about being trans*. Yes, if you seen me now, you would probably think that I'm just a regular *cis-het* girl, but trust me. I have spent about 5 years trying to figure out who I am and let me say, it has been one helluva ride. I have heard so many people, friends and family, say so many disrespectful things about transgender people and it honestly, physically pains me, to see just how much hate and disrespect people, who I thought were more open-minded, are.
Yes some may say that maybe if I come out, then they'l change their perspectives, however knowing them for as long as I have, I know they won't and that is honestly soooo unfortunate.
Anyway, finally. At 17 years old, I have come out fully, to myself. It took 2 and 1/2 years, but I am finally able to say it out loud to myself. *I. Am. Trans*.* "Hi, my name is Liam. Liam. My. Name. Is. Liam." "Liam. Liam Taylor." Honestly, even though I am not fully out to friends and family, just typing that is helping me. As I am writing this, it is 11:34 pm on a Wednesday night, and I am finally able to come out and say it. "I am Liam." I have been out on the internet for a few months now, but now? Now I am out to myself, and I'm happy. Now the next step. My parents. That's a whole other story, and I'll keep you updated when I do that.
Okay, take care now cuties,
Liam :)
