At any given moment, one of them could make a determination that you or your child is a threat and act on their perception. You may “think” you would be ready to act....but would you really? How do you know for sure? What measures do you take on a regular basis to assure you’re always “switched on” when out with your loved ones? When you’re out and about in your daily life, the necessity to stay aware of what may be happening around you or of possible impending danger could literally mean the difference between life or death in certain environments. Notice how no one saw a man walking toward them with his face covered as being strange or out of the ordinary enough to react? This is “normalcy bias”...the tendency to normalize the unusual or strange out of disbelief that it’s ACTUALLY occurring in your presence. Your awareness should be so that anything out of the ordinary should trigger a response of some sort..in some cases it could be a mere observation that affects a decision (should I stay or un-ass the area?) In others, the observation and affected decision could be more severe. No one is perfect, and you may not see everything, but when you DO, don’t pass the unusual off casually so easy. Its not about being paranoid, it’s about being prepared. (While getting your training at the range is cool, sharpening other skills such as awareness and first aid is a must!)
