michael has always been scared of big dogs; in fact, he was terrorized by them, their sharp teeth poised to dig into your flesh if they were angry. yes, michael had seen lots of horror movies depictiing dogs as evil.

william hated dogs. even though they were usually extremely loyal, he found them stupid and not worth looking after one. they were loud, clumsy, and most of the time, they waited for a reward from you. vanessa had always begged for a dog, though when she was younger: she thought having one would help her become less stressful, and as a distraction from all the horrible things her father made her do.

michael thought the opposite, until one day, when coming back from the original freddy's location after a night of daily maintenance and a desperate try to fix mangle, he saw a lost dog on the parking lot; a young pitbull female who backed away when he tried approaching her. michael was suprised, he knew deep down that his fear of dogs had only been built on misinterpretations and lies. then vanessa's words resonated on his mind: having a dog could help me. and so, seeing no phone number on the dog's collar, michael took her home.

he ensured to buy anything that an owner would need for a dog: food, a dog bed, some squeaky toys, and a new tag name. the dog didn't seem to have one, and so no identity carried on it. michael chose the name bella: simple, basic and easy to remember

he brought her to the vet to check on her state, and then to his apartment: michael's residence didn't allow pets, but the landlord was nice enough to let bella stay

michael never thought owning a dog would change his life; he began building a routine that was meant for he and bella: taking her for a walk, being greeted by happy barks after having known silence and ignorance. he just felt alive again

yet he still had dark thought most of the time, and always bought extra food, piercing the bags so bella could still eat even after he was no longer there

I saw someone say "but Mike didn't turn into an asshole, that's not an excuse." Yes, because everyone's experience with childhood trauma is different. Maybe because Mike was more privileged than Jeff was. Mike had a loving family that he described similar to these cheesy family shows, and from what we saw his family seemed wealthier (thanks to the behind-the-scenes picture that is taken with the family where you see a huge house)

Jeff seemed to always live in poverty. He doesn't know what is spending a nice time with a family.
