Hello!
Yap to me!
Tell me about something ur interested in that you haven't had the chance to talk about, something you want to vent about, just how your day went, or something else entirely! You can also save this for another day or not answer it at all it's your choice of course
(HAI YOUR TURN!!!)
YAYAYAY YOUVE FALLEN INTO MY TRAP >:)
WHOSE READY TO LEARN ABOUT MOTHS
I'm gonna be talking about my favorite moth, the Madagascar comet moth!
(picture from Pinterest)
The one shown above is a male, you can tell because of the larger and more feathery antennae and the longer tails!
>The tails are actually one of my favorite examples of evolution as these moths (and some others like the more common and famous Luna moth) have them to disrupt bat echolocation!! How freaking cool is that!!!
Males have longer versions of these because the females actually stay in place while the males fly to find them. The bats would chase the moths and the moths would subsequently be able to avoid being eaten by them.
>The more feathery antennae are there so males can pick up the female pheremones they send out.
>This moth is a silk moth, meaning it doesn't actually have mouth or digestive parts once it becomes a grown adult! It lives for about a week off of the food it ate as a caterpillar (that's why the caterpillar was so hungry) (I know he's a butterfly) (they belong to the same order) (lepidoptera)
>these guys live in the rainforest! Because of that, naturally, it rains a lot. If they built normal cocoons then they would be drowned before they were full grown. Because of that, these moths have started created their cocoons with holes in them!
Oh god the autism is showing
Thank you so much actually I love yapping (and seeing people yap that's why I started doing the asks)

The adults have this nice orange colour but I also love the caterpillars which remaind me of sea slugs. Image of the caterpillar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lithacodes_fasciola_larva.jpg
