Glass Enclosures: For When You Want to Pretend You’re in a Snow Globe
Lately, I’ve been thinking about winter. (Yes, in June. Blame the weird hail storm last week.) Specifically, how our patio becomes a no-man’s-land from November to April. All that beautiful mountain light, wasted!
I fell down a research hole and landed on DecKor’s glass enclosures page. Their photos of Colorado Springs homes with insulated glass rooms stopped me mid-scroll. One had snow piled on the roof but people inside in sweaters, holding mugs. Cozy chaos. (Glass Enclosures in Colorado Springs)
The idea of a four-season space is wild—like a sunroom, but less “1980s nursing home.” Sliding glass panels? Yes. Energy-efficient glazing that doesn’t turn it into a greenhouse? Double yes. I’m now mentally furnishing it with a thrifted rattan chair and a space heater that looks like a campfire.
Reality check: This is a “someday” project. But for now, I’ll stare longingly at their gallery while eating popsicles in my stuffy living room.
