Cold Specks: I personally like the stripped down version of this song, but Ladan Husseinâs album tracks are lush and gorgeous and melancholy. She calls her sound âdoom soulâ.
Frazey Ford: Most of her tracks are slow and ambling like this. It might be cheating to include her cover of a Dylan track, but I just really like it.
Valerie June:Â From Memphis! Her sound is a mix of bluegrass, soul, and Appalachian folk. Love how her mandolin and banjo echo her own twang.
Sharon Van Etten:Â I saw her open for Nick Cave, so itâs kind of thematic given the post that inspired the ask. Light and airy. (Iâve also seen Neko Case and Cat Power open for him, who are similarly fantastic).
Rachael Yamagata: Dark, thick, and rough - some of my favorite things in a musicianâs sound. This track is crunchy and bold. I love her voice.
