The ghost of Sir Edward Dregg was no normal shadow of a deceased. He was self-aware, able to leave the place where his grave was to travel the Underworld freely and he could even haunt during the daylight hours.
Not that Sir Edward didn’t particularly like the light of day. But that day a familiar presence drew him into the sun. Among the visitors to the pirate theme park that his ship was part of, there was an elfblooded woman. And on a string around her neck she wore...
“My old coin!” (see Gen. 2 and 3, the tag is “coinhunt”)
For the first time in many decades Edward felt joy over something other than gruelly tormenting lesser souls.
“If you have it now, are you one of my descendants? Come on, they surely must have told you about gramps Eddy! What is your surname, maiden fair?”
“My name is Arwen. I’m engaged to Rhonabwy Shepard, a Shepard of the 6th generation.”
“Judging from your tone, you are not in love with my kid”, Sir Edward retorted.
“Nah, that is called attraction. Your bodies ache to create little copies of themselves.”
“But I’m not even sure if I want a child!”
Before she knew, Arwen had already spilled all her doubts about the engagement to a total stranger. She ended her plea with the question what Sir Edward would do.
The ghost chuckled when he answered:
“Follow my whims, as I always have, of course! But if you need some guidance, consider this: Marry Rhonabwy and have his child, if you wish to stir up trouble in the netherworld and that of the living alike. Is World Peace more to your liking, choose another suitor!”
Arwen shook her head. She refused to believe that her child of all kids in the world would be that special! Besides, how would that ghost be able to judge this? Could it perhaps see into the future?
“Can you see the future or what?!” Arwen snapped.
“I indeed see something you cannot, fair lady Arwen”, Sir Edward answered, in an uncharacteristically solemn voice. “But that’s not the future, it is the past. We dead know where all the pieces are, but you living are the only ones that can move them around on the board. So to say.”
