Sight Glass Guatemala Las Terrazas ... THIS is what I'm talking about! Third bag of new-to-me roasters is the first really great coffee. The tasting notes on the bag are spot on and this can be had without milk and drinks beautifully. It has the delicate balance right between power and finesse/elegance. Based on this showing, I am putting Sight Glass in my top tier of favorite roasters with LAMill and Ritual and ahead of Verve. LAMill Las Mercedes Tabaconas Peru is the first #coffee from @lamillcoffee that I merely like rather than love. The roast was spot on, but the brew felt slightly thin and ashy and drank much darker than the bean color would suggest. Still finished the bag mind you, and still better than much of the swill sold all over this country every day, but not up to the lofty heights of other offerings of theirs. Ritual Dora Munoz Microlot from Colombia is one of my favorite coffees in recent memory. Super intense flavor but with a finesse that is hard to find. It combines light floral notes with intense nutty notes (think walnut rather than hazelnut) and a pretty unique soft fruit note on the finish. Unsurprisingly, this is already sold out. LA Mill Finca El Apostol is a great cup of coffee. Natural processed blend of Caturra and Catua from Costa Rica's Central Valley. It is definitely sparkling and has cola and dark chocolate flavors. I personally also find a citrus herbal note and a touch of strawberry. Olympia Coffee Roasting Co Guatemala El Socorro Maracaturra is a remarkable coffee on several levels. The Maracaturra beans are ginormous and quality-wise in wine terms the equivalent of Grand Cru. The roast is extremely light. The result is a coffee that is sweet, buttery/creamy and intensely nutty. I think the best way to describe the flavor profile is to say that it tastes like Pecan Pralines that are so common here in TX. While the roast is super light, there is plenty of tension and flavor in this coffee.
