They were in a war with dragons for generations at that point and after moons of ominous lightning and an engorging red moon, out comes a primal in the shape of a dragon from the moon Dalamud.

Menphina's hound just produced a Twelves'-damned dragon! Do you think anyone worshiping Menphina alongside Halone would be persecuted out of association? Or perhaps pitied?

And this is during the calamity, what about right before it? How would Coerthan people react to Dalamud becoming larger while the skies darkened into an ominous mess of lightning strikes and clouds ensconced the moon, making it look akin to an eye gazing out upon the land below?

What would the knights stationed out in Western Coerthas think, seeing the moon creep closer each and every night they do their shifts?

Do you think the nobles of the Holy See scoffed at the moon approaching and ignored it in public whilst praying close to tears in private for succor from Halone?

Just think about Lord Charlemend positioning himself as a stalwart example of a Halonic man while in private begging the Fury not to take any more of his sons.

Lord Edmont doing the same out of duty all the while fearing for his family.

Aymeric stationed out in Coerthas feeling a sense of dread pool inside him as he tears away his gaze from the descending moon to focus on his work dealing with increasingly alarming monsters this close to Ishgard's gates.

Estinien too wrapped up in his crusade against the Dravanian horde to fully register what may happen soon.

Haurchefant and Francel together on another trip away from Fortemps manor chattering nervously to spill any anxieties they both might have about the moon.

And then the first debris from Dalamud hits. Both of them stilling before scrambling to the nearest shelter.

Meanwhile in the Holy See, there are both highborn and lowborn running in the streets to the nearest shelter. Saint Reymanaud's Cathedral is packed with people cowering or desperate to confess.

The Vault has people pounding on the imposing doors in desperation.

The reverberating roar of Bahamut simultaneously terrorizes and unties the peoples of the Holy See.

Then after a few more violent tremors, everyone's memory of the calamity from that point on bleeds into nothing until the next day.

And that is when all of Ishgard finds themselves in a winter that never abates. Rather, the snow keeps piling on in fulms.

The days leading up to the 7th Umbral Calamity were the last they'd ever see of their temperate alpine lands, covered in greenery and able to grow all sorts of crops.

These didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. Every element went wrong in some way. But they're fine. Not bad at all. Perfectly nice. Just... something I know I could do better.
