Soy sauce cockle with rice
Another Hmart 'kit' review. This time, I tried pre-packaged soy sauce cockle!
I thought it was clam until I turned it over & saw the English.
Cockle, as per Google, is a distant cousin of clams. They have similar texture when eaten. They differ in their shell shape. .. yeah, I don't know. I'm just gonna treat it as a clam relative. I like all seafood! Or at least, the ones that I've eaten anyway.
The kit contains 3 components: the large package is the one that has the cockle, the smallest one is sesame oil, & then the last one is soy sauce.
(The cockle pack is watery; I'm guessing that's the preservative 'juice')
Yup, I was right haha like the canned whelks, the cockles were in a light murky brown 'water'. I got rid of it & all the little leafy things as well. Not sure if it's edible but the picture instructions does show a draining procedure. So if you end up buying this, don't miss that step!
Drained & then mixed in the soy sauce & sesame oil.
I ate it with rice & some seaweed. PS: this product is meant to be eaten cold but when you put it on top of hot rice & mix it, it warms up.
YUMMMMMMY! The flavour was good & I liked the texture of the cockle. It's slightly chewy & lacks mushiness. Canned & bagged seafood is still kind of weird to me but after the canned whelks, I feel more confident with this packaging of seafood lol it tastes like Korean banchan. If you know, you know?.. . you know all those briased banchans, like quail eggs or fish cakes..? It reminded me of those. It's totally the sweet Korean soy sauce but it's so good!!
I would 100% buy this again!
