かって産炭地であった北海道にはたくさんの炭鉱遺産が残っている。北海道三笠市にある「旧北海道炭礦汽船幌内炭鉱変電所」もその1つ。

通常は外観しか見ることができないけれど、夏季の月に1〜2回程度、地元の有志の方々のご尽力で内部公開がされる。訪れた時は内部で「炭鉱の金物店写真展」が催されていた。

炭鉱が栄えていた頃から、多くの人がいなくなった現在まで、幌内地区で店を開いている「太田金物店」の歴史を語る展示会。お店にある年代物が少々出張販売されていたのだけど、その中に「ちえのわ」が。
