It would do our fandom a lot of good to remember that just because Matt and Chris aren’t as powerful as Jeff, doesn’t mean that they don’t have the same goal that Jeff has. Louis’ career is not where Harry’s is, but Louis is still completely that management company’s golden goose. They have a vested interest in trying to keep his career going in the same direction it’s been going in. Since the very beginning, Louis has been the man in love and serious relationships and when you add in the perfect fatherhood mirage, it doesn’t take a lot to realize why Zara is being push the way she is. She’s probably been given a character dossier of the role she would be playing. They probably picked her because they thought with her background she would be better at selling the lie. Unfortunately for everyone else, Louis is never going to do anything more than bare minimum in these stunts, and it doesn’t help that they picked a woman who goes against everything Louis had made it clear he is.
As for it feeling sometimes like they are trying to mess up his career and make it harder for him and Harry to come out, I look at it as that saying that happens so often in abusive relationship…”if I can’t have you, nobody will.” In his management’s mind, they have helped create him, or the character of Louis TomlinsonTM, so they unfortunately feel like they deserve to not lose him, or the money he makes for them.
As fucked up as it is, ethics and morals aren’t in the forefront of these people’s minds. They see his career as a business and him as an asset, and they will do just about anything to keep it that way.
Yep. Agreed. For a long time I saw Louis’ management differently because he isn’t signed to a label. But he clearly doesn’t have the freedom to do things the way he wants to.
On top of which, he’s inextricably tied to Harry. So, even if by some chance he did have the freedom to show who he is, he really couldn’t because of how restricted Harry is.
