"There are a few clear commonalities between transition and intravenous drug usage: social stigmatization, a robust community that exists on the margins and in the hidden spaces, pervasive threat of (usually socially legitimized) violence and death, injections. This song, which is intended to discuss using speed, I think perfectly hits into that overlap. In specific, I think it reads perfectly as a song about the moment that you accept that you really are trans, the beauty and horror of the moment when you can't repress it any longer, when you accept your commonality with those thousands you have so long admired and likely feared, when you realize that your future, the future you were so scared to accept, will feature brighter things than diamonds, and an alley, and a chain. The woman I am now haunted my building long before she learned to breathe, is what I'm trying to say."
