Going Solar At Mahindra Bloomberg visited the Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. car manufacturing facility in Chakan, India, where the company utilizes solar energy to produce dry saturated steam and pressurized hot water for their auto component cleaning and degreasing operations. Mahindra generates thermal energy from solar dishes that can readily produce temperatures of up to 300 degrees Celsius to drive processes without ever generating a single kilowatt-hour of power. About 30% of India’s oil imports are used in processes requiring heat, not electricity, such as pasteurizing milk, dyeing textiles, and steam-cleaning automobile components.
