hi I took a break from my usual reading and read this pamphlet by the campaign against climate change trade union group
Overall I would say my opinion of this document is pretty positive. I think it took a worker-forward and sober economic approach to the issue of work and climate change.
It was interesting in its perspective to resource and energy usage- maybe not as dire as many of the people in the same camp are, but without any of the optimistic idealist trappings of many on the left when it comes to climate and resources. It was interestingly solidly in a "degrowther" camp, along the similar lines as many degrowth communist thinkers, though it clearly came from a different, living standard based train of thought, rather than from the established like literature in that subject.
I appreciated the continual international sense of care though maybe not as deep as it could be, it was clear where geographically the weight of emissions lie (ie the idea of like unequal contribution to climate change and unequal effect of resource exploitation, so solutions should be mindful of exploitation of resources in the global south rather)
It was a clear, concise and direct document about one of the largest economic problems of our time, and its solutions have crossover and merit within a socialist system, though it is a distinctly non-revolutionary set of demands. I think it provides a really interesting discussion ground for socialists and communists who should disseminate, discuss and critique it for the above reasons. We can generate new analysis and we can develop ourselves and others. Exciting.
