Apples to Apple - Taking a Byte Out of Green Energy
Call me biased, but Apple is the superior technological brand. I stare down at my iPhone, listen to my favorite bands on Apple Music, and regret that I type this post on a Toshiba, and not a MacBook. But, high-quality technological gadgets are not the only things for which this billion-dollar mega-corporation will be known. Apple is now leading the way in green energy. According to a statement from CEO Tim Cook – you’re doing great sweetie – Apple’s facilities are 100% powered by green energy. Steve Jobs’ non-turtle neck wearing successor said of this movement that, “we’re committed to leaving the world better than we found it.” Obviously, this applies only to the environment, as the lack of a headphone jack has left the world perplexed. . . but perhaps that’s a different post.
There is something interestingly ironic in a tech company who outsources like a champion leading the way in green, sustainable energy. What is even more surprising, is the distribution of this energy. Cities – especially major cities that require tons of energy to sustain – are benefiting from Apple’s energetic charity. Their advanced, fun headquarters in Cupertino is LEED Platinum-certified. What does that mean, you might ask? I would ask that too – because I do not know. But, I can Google pretty well. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a corporation that assists in building and certifies large structures as sustainable buildings. Apple’s headquarters have 17-megawatt rooftop solar installations powering the entire facility. What’s more spectacular is that the company gives clean energy back to the public grid from time-to-time. What environmental heroes – Samsung is shook.
As if I wasn’t already a proud Apple product user – I mean, my eyes light up when I even see the store in the mall – I can now boast that the provider of my obnoxious phone that has no headphone jack and a delicate screen is leading the way in clean energy.
