This past weekend, after a disastrous attempt at trying to make a chocolate Swiss Roll cake using a modern day recipe, I returned to the comfort of Julia Child’s cookbooks and her reliable recipes. 🍰 This cookbook of hers is one of my favorites. Here, in The Way To Cook, Julia teaches the basic fundamentals of some of the great recipes she enjoyed in her later years, which were also known as her lighter years (fare-wise), and then offers up a few variations on each cooking technique. This style of recipe layout allowed home cooks to get comfortable improvising with different ingredients while still getting the same delicious result. 🍒 In tomorrow’s post, I’ll share the dessert I made and how under Julia’s guidance I improvised by using a summer fruit I already had on hand. Success at last in the dessert department! There was no round two of baking fiascos, thank goodness. It’s really no surprise that Julia’s dessert won the weekend though - she was an icon for a reason! But it is nice to be reminded of the confidence and encouragement her recipes still provide in the kitchen. ♥️ Stay tuned ‘til tomorrow to see the dessert. In the meantime, find a copy of her cookbook in the shop! . . . . . #juliachild #cookinginspiration #vintagecookbooks #classiccooking #frenchbaking #frenchcooking #goodfood #goodcook #juliachildrecipe https://www.instagram.com/p/CQHR1ECgHwd/?utm_medium=tumblr
