"Aidan!"
Annika looked over at the house, surprised at the sudden addition to the moment. Aidan paused in his conversation with his father, eyes lighting up as he saw who had spoken.
"Tommy!" He called, and the little boy who had exclaimed his name came running from the front door of the house. A woman, presumably their mother, stood in the doorway, lingering and watching. Aidan's father waved her over, getting her to join.
Aidan picked up the little boy, holding him up against his side. "How have you been?"
"Hungry, but-" The little boy pouted, "Papa's been teaching me! I know how to make a sword- You have to see it-"
"Oh, really?" Aidan voiced, raising an eyebrow. "I wasn't gone for that long." He looked at his mother, and then Tommy, and then back at Annika. "I want you guys to meet Annika, she's the princess."
His mother quickly moved to bow, and Annika stopped her. "You don't need to, it's alright-"
Tommy's eyes widened. "The princess?" He gasped, looking between her and Aidan. "Papa," He whispered, "Can I give her the sword I made?"
Their father laughed a little bit, "Yes, go get it." Aidan put him down and he was running into the smithy.
Aidan smiled at Annika, and she returned it.
"The princess, huh?" Aidan's father laughed, "You've found yourself very lucky, boy, she's a beautiful girl. And royalty, at that. How did you-"
"Father," Aidan warned, and his mother giggled, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"We have been worried about you, darling," She spoke, "We thought you were gone for good..."
Annika felt like she was interrupting an important moment. Her eyes caught on Tommy, who was holding something in his hands and examining it. She assumed it was the sword, but could not tell from the distance.
"But I'm back now?" He supplied, stiffly placing his hand on hers.
"And I'm sure you'll have quite the story to tell," She looked over to Tommy as well, a fond look in her eyes. "You see he's grown, yes?"
Aidan's demeanor seems to begin to crumble, and Annika grabs onto his arm to comfort him. His father is gone, talking to Tommy about the sword. It was the three of them watching his little brother.
"You've missed a lot, Aidan."
#679: "I legitimately got into an almost hour long debate with one of my professors because I turned in a paper saying that Barbie is a good role model for young girls. She almost refused to hear any of my points about the messages in the Barbie movies and only cared about how Barbie's image of 'the perfect body' wasn't good for girls. And yet, I learned how to be kind, brave, and passionate because of Barbie movies. I don't care how she looks, I want the messages she gives."
