Today's paper went well (paper 3 love and relationships classical civ)

The extract was a bit from Ovid talking about how it's important women hide their makeup and hygiene routines because of how unnatractive it is.

The 10 marker asked how he presents it or something, I said he uses contrast to insult the women then compare them to works of art for greater effect. It's also good to get a few laughs from the men.

The next 10-marker asked what Plato's ideal relationship is. I said it was probably a pederastic or homoerotic relationship where both parties chase philosophy.

The 20 marker asked if I agree that Plato and Ovid have no similarities in their ideas of an ideal relationship. I said they only agree that beauty doesn't matter, they disagree on the importance of sex (is only a starting point for Plato, is everything for Ovid) and age (Ovid thinks going out with kids is bad. Plato does not).

The 30 marker I chose the first one, it asks if women and men experience love differently in the ancient world. I said the emotions were the same, as displayed by our poets. The philosophers are special cases trying to push an agenda so don't accurately reflect the general population's feelings. Women are more restricted so it's unlikely they ever loved their husbands that much, in Greece at least.
