Oh, I’ll give benefit of the doubt if people seem to have reasonable details- when it happened, the approx length of the interaction, what exactly was said. It’s when say “X is ___phobic/ableist/whatev” without any evidence there that it’s a problem.

I don’t think it’s unfair to place the burden of proof on the accuser, here. If you want to make accusations, you need to come to the table with better evidence than “well, I think I remember them doing this once.”

It’s only unfair in the case that some things cannot be properly catalogued, like conversations or altercations had IRL, some receipts are only recognizable as damning in hindsight, where they might be buried or lost to time, and sometimes people simply kneejerk delete personal correspondence for being too emotionally upsetting, and only realize when they’ve calmed down later that they probably should have saved said correspondence as evidence.

Of course, I’m making the very kind assumption that most people are genuinely attempting to warn others about genuinely terrible, genuinely abusive, toxic, manipulative people, as callout posts should be used, as opposed to ‘this person has/had a questionable opinion, thus we should ostracize them and assume that they’re irredeemable’

‘Course I’m also very cynical because I’ve seen too many callout posts aimed at minors for sake of them not being fully educated on the nuances of feminism and social justice and that stuff makes me ripshit. idk the ages involved with all the people in this drama, but I’m talking on a grand scale of callouts.
