Honda Project 2&4 '2015
Honda Project
Honda Project
Honda began making cars in 1963, 14 years after it launched its first motorcycle. Unlike other Japanese firms that mass-built subcompact "kei" cars, Honda entered the market with a two-seater S-series sports car, which had a lot in common with motorcycles. Subsequently, Honda has always gone its own way, ignoring global trends in the automotive industry, and this has become a key factor in its success.

In Frankfurt, Honda showed what happens when an automaker completely unties the hands of its designers. A mid-century Formula 1 racing car, a sports bike and a driver's seat hanging above the ground - all this was embodied in the Honda 2 & 4 project.

The Honda 2 & 4, as conceived by the creators, is a hybrid of a motorcycle and a car with exceptional agility. The name indicates the relationship with both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.

The project is the winner of the global competition for the Japanese brand, in which more than 80 specialists from all Honda design studios took part. The designers took inspiration from the Honda RA272 racing car, on which Richie Ginter brought the Japanese brand's factory team their first Formula 1 victory at the Mexican Grand Prix in the fall of 1965.

The look turned out to be sporty and extremely spartan, and the main and extremely unusual design highlight is the driver's seat, which literally hangs over the road, actually outside the body of the car. The creators decided that in this way the driver will be maximally involved in the driving process, feel the freedom that only a two-wheeled sports bike can give, and will be able to fully appreciate the remarkable speed abilities of 2 & 4. At the same time, you will not be able to ride with the driver: the concept is single.

The prototype was equipped with an upgraded version of the 999cc four-cylinder engine used on the Honda RC213V sportbike in the MotoGP racing series. The engine develops over 215 horsepower (at 13,000 rpm) and 118 Nm of torque (at 10,500 rpm). The unit is combined with a six-speed "robot" with two clutches.

Honda has not yet said anything about the possibility of serial production of Project 2 & 4. A commercial vehicle could compete with the small-scale sports cars BAC Mono, KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom.
