We finally settled on talking about only several inauguration, with President Washington, President Taft, and President Jefferson’s inauguration amongst others. Then we talked about how each of their inauguration shaped the customary celebration, much like a cutscene. Do you know that the only mandatory part of inauguration is the oath? And I thought the speech is also mandatory, guess not.

LM also learnt about Capitol a little and happily trying to find out its location in US, and in Washington DC. Google map really helped us in zooming in and out, so then LM knew the almost exact location. VIVA online maps!

And since Capitol Hill building has those flights of stairs, we decided to do an open end math. Right before LM chose one of the Capitol’s picture online to copy. Success on the second attempt, with blending technique. The source of the picture is also in the first picture above.

The question is how long does it take to get inside the Capitol? So LM decided on the amount of stairs by eyeballing one of the picture we found, then LM said maybe four hour (which probably too long in real world, but it’s open end so what the learner says, goes).

With this LM learnt conversion and division at the same time. Although LM still hadn’t quite understand what division is, the tally technique shown above helped with the learning. Probably would work better with manipulatives but after looking at the picture, LM’s wanted to be done with the math faster, so maybe next open end math.

LM also suggest we visit Capitol one day. Sure do!
