CIRCLE I
Premise
I was working so much with gesture and with happenings until now, that I lost sense of it. It is same way as if you do something every day and after two months/years you dont know why you started with it. So I decided to go further, try another way of artistic expression. Leave the safe harbour of performances and happenings and try to work with something more unknown for me - visual language. Because I hope, art should deal with unknown.
At the same time I found so interesting color theories (specially about monochrome) of Malevich and T. Halik's theological theories about unknown, hope and death, that I decided to involve them somehow in my work. Maybe it sounds crazy, but there was no other way for me this time.
And because my interest does not lay in the space of classical visual language (draw by hand/paint by hand.. etc) I decided to use some of "new" aproaches to make visual expressions. Particularly programing language "Processing" or something similar. But of course - I do not exclude to try some sketches by my hand or do some helping works by my hand.
Idea:
Construct and realize script, which will create combination of shapes which at end will make circle from many small particles. Unique circle. Because circle is the shape which is important for me - it is special combination of mathematical rules and repetition which (for me) could be so symbolic in many ways. Unique because there wont be always same way to make it, but every time different. Always the same rules, but also always different realization within the borders of rules. This circle will consist of many small particles, which will be always different. Same way, as we can affect something of our destiny, but not all.
Realization
At the end I would like to do a big print of that way generated circle and install it to some outdoor place, probably some abandoned house (many of them here) and make by this way something like public space installation. The size of circle would be about 2x2metres.
Influence:
Here are some of artists who interested me and somehow influenced me in connection with my actual work.
- Kasimir Malevich - developed his own style, but for me more important, are his theories about colors, specially about monochrome and its connection with religion and faith.
- Zdenek Sykora - First Czech artist who used math and randomness in visual arts. For me most important is long-term focusing on searching for best "random" compositions
- Zdenek Pesanek - Pesanek tried to work with light, kinetics at around 1930 and his work is sometimes still powerfull and for me important.
- Krystof Pesek // KOF - exploring borders of processing language in video - using math in visuality
Tomáš Halík - Czech theologist. Exploring and speaking about unknown.
and many others, whom I dont remember now..
