1859 - 1880: engineered famine and genocide of Circassians by Russia, culminating in deportation of those who survived famine and mass murder. BTW. You might have heard of a place named Tuapse recently. Guess what, it used to be a Circassian center. That's why it has an adyghe name, so non-slavic.

Ayşe Hafsa Sultan & Nurbanu Sultan

Both were consorts to sultans named Selim.

Both gave birth first to daughters.

Ayşe Hafsa was the first to hold the title of Valide Sultan, while Nurbanu was the first to hold it as an official, legally recognized position.

Both were known for their beauty.

Both were charitable and beloved by the people.

Both were of Balkan Slavic origin (Handan was Bosnian, Dilaşub may have been Serbian ).

Both were the first concubines presented to the prince/sultan.

Both served only 2 years as Valide Sultan.

Both had sons named Süleyman (Handan’s son died in childhood)

Both were of Circassian origin.

Both were consorts of Sultan Abdülmecid I.

Both adopted children of other consorts who had passed away.

The sons they adopted later became sultans.

I have a headcanon that the Valyrians, including the Targaryens, have not only a culture inspired by the Byzantine culture, but also by the Caucasian cultures. By Caucasian, I mean actual cultures of the Caucasus mountains, not the wh*te s*premacy sh*t you get in the West.

This means that the houses from the Old Valyria, including the Targaryens, have their own distinct dances and music which are performed and played only at their balls and feasts, and those dances are inspired by Georgian, Chechen, Circassian, Dagestani etc. music and dances.

I mean, c’mon, wouldn’t they all look majestic while performing dances like Kartuli, Tsdo, Qarabsha, Samaia, Simdi and many other dances from the Caucasus? (Not to mention the infamous Legzinka?)

“After a long and desperate struggle with the mountaineers, they were finally repulsed and many were slain.” A great many of the dead were discovered to be “women in the prime of life.” These “Amazons” wore beautifully decorated, flexible scaled armor “ingeniously contrived of small iron plates laid over one another,” as well as chest plates over tunics of bright red wool, and helmets and gauntlets. The women’s boots were adorned with braids of brass sequins, and their arrows also showed fine craftsmanship—long gilded shafts with barbed points like “scissors.” The women’s armor and weapons were sent to the prince of Mingrelia, who“offered a great reward for the capture of one of these females alive.” A similar incursion of mounted men and women in northwestern Georgia was reported in 1671 by Sir John Chardin, who personally observed one of the so-called Amazon’s costumes and concluded that the invaders must have been nomadic Scythian men and women from the steppes. 

The British explorer Edmund Spencer, commenting on Lamberti’s account a century later, remarked that these “Amazons were really the wives and daughters of the Circassians . . . who to this day accompany the men to the field of battle.” In his travels in the Caucasus Spencer was struck by the “noble, animated, commanding features” of the beautiful Caucasian women, who “must have resembled the Amazons of old.” Their fiery expressions were “very different from the feminine gentleness of our own country.” Rather, Spencer fancied, they had the “character of one who could rule a kingdom, command an army, or set the world in a blaze.” Perhaps he also had in mind the powerful medieval queen Tamar (1160–1213) who ruled Georgia under the masculine title mep’e (“king”). During her reign she subdued many mountain tribes and consolidated a Georgian empire that dominated the Caucasus,Pontus, and parts of Armenia, an empire that stood until the Mongol invasions. Although Tamar did not personally lead armies, her military successes led to a body of popular, romantic legends in Georgia, in which she was portrayed as a “beautiful Amazon.””
