King Cinyras is a ruler of Cyprus, the island where Aphroditeâs temple was located and known as the homeplace where she was raised. Through generations the royal family of the kingdom had the sons and daughters attend the priest/priestesshood to honor the goddess of love and beauty. Cinyras was not only the priest but also a national hero for defending his kingdom from spiteful or jealous monsters. He has two wives, Metharme and Cencheris, blessed with many beautiful daughters. One of them, Myrrha, was the most beautiful among them. Her reputation as kind princess and loyal priestess of Aphroditeâs temple was widespread to the point Cinyrasâ second wife Cencheris arrogantly boasted her daughter is more fairer than Aphrodite herself. Cinyras scolded his wife for speaking the sacrilege, but Cencheris didnât finish as she had never seen Aphrodite in person and viewed the goddess as more of a figurehead. Offended, Aphrodite decided to curse them; by sending Eros to make Myrrha fall in love with her own father. Conflicted by her unnatural desire for her father and the shame, Myrrha attempted suicide but stopped by her nurse who, initially, tried helping to quell her desire but chose to help the princess achieve her infatuation. Her nurse disguised Myrrha as a mysterious dancer and led her to Cinyras at night. When Myrrha sensed the symptoms of her pregnancy, she ran away from home, devastating her family.Â
As years went by, Daphne and Jacinta came with a beautiful young man in the capital Paphos of Cyprus where King Cinyras and his family are. The young man showed them the necklace, bracelet and girdle that once belonged to Myrrha. The nymphs told them Myrrha died giving birth and has left her son to be raised by an underworld royal couple. Cinyras realized the young man was his grandson and asked for his name, to which the young man replied âAdonisâ. While grieving his daughter died, he is relieved she left him his grandson and immediately gave him the title of a prince.Â
According to Adonis from episode âHeracles and the Dream Dateâ, his grandfather Cinyras is âfabulously wealthyâ as heâd pamper him on getting whatever he wants. Also, the king allowed his grandson to assist him in running the Aphrodisia Festival, the responsibility heirs carried through generations. It is revealed from âHeracles and Parentsâ Weekendâ, Cinyras was once a student of Prometheus Hero Academia, well-known for his handsome features and athletic build. Despite reaching 60, the king of Cyprus is proven to be strong when he was first to defend the parents and students from Ladon, the son of Typhon and Echidna. In âHeracles and the Calydonian Boarâ, King Cinyras genuinely cares for Adonis as when he spotted his grandson crying alone, after learning of his secret birth from his biological motherâs nurse, comforting his only heir and grandson, saying he will do anything to keep him safe, bravely confronting Ares and Aphrodite believing they are sources of Adonisâ pain.
