#church problems

So, I'm in the same church for 12 years. In the past few years, me and my family had some problems with the pastor. The thing is, my father is his main assistant, a co-pastor, as we say in Brazil, and my father's efforts hadn't value to the chief pastor. Also the chief pastor has been, arrogant, selfish, being very rude to people in his sermons, some of his sermoms are very weird and not biblical-like and with all that, his clothes are very tight, the ones he uses to go to church, and he has a clearly worry with his physical appearance (going to gym and all that, that's not a sin by the way) the thing is he is very vain.

Most people of my chuch sees him as a god and worship him as one (really, I'm not kidding).

In this current COVID-19 crisis, he claims isolation and quarentine are ways to get people afraid, he doesn't understand the situation's gravity and most people in church believes in him so easily.

So, I'm keyboardist in one of the church's band and the band's leader is obsessed with the chief pastor. We have a rehearsal for the next weekend and I'm seriously thinking on what people will think of me because I'm not going to the rehearsal, not at all.

But every time I go, they find some way to poke fun at the other Abrahamic religions.

Last time I went, the lady that was preaching was talking about how you should let people help you clean your messes. Y’know, like letting others (and god) help with your problems when you need it.

And along with that, she was saying how the phrase ‘God Only helps those who learn to help themselves’ was a lie. And she was saying that it shows up everywhere but the Bible itself.

And so she said “It even shows up in the Quran, but we won’t bring ‘that’ book into Gods house.”

And then later she was saying that when you let god help, you should wait instead of finding a solution of your own. And to back that up, she said that Abraham and Sarah wanted a kid, and god was like ‘yeah, you’ll have a kid, just wait a bit’. But then they decided to fix their problem with a surrogate mother and it worked.

And she said “And them not waiting for gods help, it made a huge mess. Because that child was the one who started the Muslim religion. And what did it do? It made a huge mess. Because they didn’t wait for god to fix their first problem, it made a mess.”

Like dude!! What the hell made you think you could just casually call another religion a mess?! Just because they’re not people who don’t believe the same as you doesn’t mean you can just insult them all!!

I feel like they push they’re religion by making fun of other religions and making them seem like a horrible joke (the same place had a line about Jewish people way back when Jesus was getting crucified).

They don’t have to joke about other religions and, in turn, all the other people who practice it to make sure people stay at their church or stay Christian. They’re at the church already!! They just need to keep teaching their own religion!

My dad and some friends were at a party kicking around the idea of starting a church homebrew club and I guess our priest mistook the casual convo for an actual planning session?

And I get:

My church raffled a literal wheelbarrow filled with bottles of booze for cash.

After lecturing people about other people getting drunk.

....

It's a good thing I believe the Lord has a sense of humor because the comedy writes itself.
