You donât mean to blurt it out.
Youâve been pacing the bunker library for ten minutes, chewing the inside of your cheek while Sam pretends to read and Dean watches you over the rim of his beer like youâre a bomb heâs waiting to detonate.
You stop.
You canât stall anymore.
âIâm pregnant.â
The words fall flat and heavy on the table between you.
Dean blinks. Sam goes still. Not dramatic-still. Just that quiet, careful kind of still that means his brain is already racing through worst-case scenarios.
Deanâs the first to speak. âOkay. Thatâs⌠okay.â He sets the beer down. âWhoâs the guy?â
Your hands are shaking. You press them to the table so they wonât see.
âChuck.â
Silence.
Sam and Dean exchange a look and itâs the kind that makes your stomach drop because itâs loaded with something you donât understand. Dean scrubs a hand down his face. âYouâve gotta be kidding me.â
âIâm not kidding,â you snap, already defensive, already fragile. âI know how it sounds, okay? I know heâs weird and flaky andââ
Sam stands up so abruptly his chair scrapes. âHow long?â
âA few weeks.â Your voice cracks. âWhy are you acting like this?â
Dean lets out a breath that sounds like heâs about to confess to a crime. âThereâs something you need to know.â
Your heart starts pounding harder. âIf this is some big brother speech about how heâs a loser, I swear to Godââ
âThatâs the thing,â Dean says quietly. âHe is.â
Sam looks at you, and thereâs something almost apologetic in his eyes.
âHeâs not just a writer,â Sam says. âHeâs not just some guy who got lucky and published books about us.â
You frown. âYeah, I know. Heâs⌠eccentric.â
Dean huffs a humorless laugh. âThatâs one word for it.â
Sam swallows. âHeâs God.â
You actually laugh. It bursts out of you sharp and disbelieving. âThatâs not funny.â
âWeâre not joking,â Dean says. You look between them, waiting for the punchline. There isnât one. Your chest tightens.
âNo,â you whisper. âNo, heâs not.â
Sam steps closer, slow, like youâre a spooked animal. âWe found out a while ago. He admitted it. Weâve seen what he can do.â
You shake your head hard. âStop. Just stop. Thatâs notâ heâs just Chuck. He leaves dishes in the sink. He loses his keys. He complains about Wi-Fi.â
âHe also created the universe,â Dean mutters.
Your stomach flips violently. You press a hand over it. Over the life growing there.
âOh my God,â you breathe, and this time it isnât disbelief. Itâs horror. âOh my God.â
You stumble back until your hips hit the table. âHe canât be.â Your voice is rising now. âHe canât be, because if he is then that meansââ
âThat means your babyâs halfâŚâ Dean trails off, clearly unwilling to finish that sentence.
âHalf what?â you demand. Sam doesnât sugarcoat it. He never does. âHalf divine.â
The room feels smaller. The air thinner.
You drag your hands through your hair. âNo. No, no, no. I didnât sign up for this. I didnâtâhe didnât tell me.â
Deanâs jaw tightens. âOf course he didnât.â
You look at them wildly. âDid he plan this? Is this some cosmic experiment? Is my kid going to come out glowing? Or with wings? Orâor with the ability to smite people in preschool?â
Dean almost smiles at that, but it fades fast.
âWe donât know,â Sam says gently.
âThatâs not comforting, Sam!â Your voice cracks and suddenly your eyes are burning. You didnât even have time to process being pregnant. You barely wrapped your head around morning sickness and tiny socks and the fact that your life was about to change forever.
Now this.
You slide down into a chair, breathing too fast.
âHe canât just do this,â you whisper. âHe canât play house with me and forget to mention heâs literally God.â
Sam crouches in front of you. His big hands settle carefully on your knees. Steady. Warm. âHey. Look at me.â
You do, barely.
âWhatever he is,â Sam says softly, âyouâre still you. And thatâs still your baby. Not his project. Not his story.â Dean moves closer too, resting a hand on your shoulder. âIf he thinks he gets to mess with you because heâs got a capital G, heâs got another thing coming.â
A shaky laugh escapes you. âYouâre going to fistfight God again, arenât you?â
âWouldnât be the first time,â Dean mutters.
Tears spill before you can stop them.
âIâm scared,â you admit. âI donât know what this means. I donât know what this baby is.â
Samâs thumb brushes away a tear before it falls. âIt means youâre not alone in this.â
Dean squeezes your shoulder. âYeah. Weâve handled angels, demons, apocalypses. We can handle a celestial niece or nephew.â
You let out a watery huff. âWe donât even know that yet. Itâs, like, eighteen weeks before they can tell.â
Dean blinks. âSince when do you know that?â
âSince five minutes ago when I panic-Googled everything,â you mumble.
That almost gets a real laugh out of him. âOkay,â he says, softer now. âFine. Celestial question mark.â
Sam smiles a little at that. âWhatever they are,â he says gently, âtheyâre still yours.â
The fear is still sitting in your chest. Still heavy. Still complicated.
But your brothers are here.
And if God thinks he gets to surprise you with divine plot twists, heâs about to learn what happens when you mess with a Winchester sister.
