what if the reader tries to escape Chrollo and gets caught and she fears punishment so she tries to seduce him?
Note: this was fun lol. This actually inspired me to write a fic for this too. It goes along with it. I'll be posting it separately since it's pretty long. :)
Chrollo doesnât let go of his fascinations easilyâantique books, Nen abilities, valuable artifacts, and even peopleâhe likes to keep them close. Unfortunately for you, heâs very fascinated with you. You could run to the other side of the world, change your identity, start a whole new life, and he would still find you. Heâs fucking relentless. Absolutely nothing can keep you safe from him. Call it love, call it obsession, call it whatever you want, it doesnât make any difference when youâre trying to get away. Â
Predictably, your escape failedâand youâre fucking terrified of being punished. Understandably so, Chrollo can be fucking horrifying. But heâs never raised his voice or hand at you, ever. That's not his style. Still, itâs only natural to expect punishment when caught doing something wrong, even though right and wrong is somewhat subjective in this scenario.   Â
I highly doubt Chrollo would be anything less than calm and composed when he catches you. Heâs not the type of person to get emotional easily, even in the most unfavorable situations. His calm, charismatic, and methodical approach has always worked for himâwhy change now? Because he seems somewhat detached for the most part, I donât think Chrollo would reveal anything heâs thinking or feeling when he confronts you. He wouldnât be angry or raise his voice, and he definitely wouldnât act impulsively or resort to physical violence.Â
The only thing Chrollo would intentionally reveal is his disappointmentâwith you and your futile attempt at escape. It wouldnât be genuine, of course. Heâs only doing it because he knows the effects itâll have on you. Depending on the circumstancesâhis mood at the time, or whether youâve tried to escape beforeâhe might use subtle threats to make it crystal fucking clear that thereâs no escaping him. He tries his best to avoid violence of any kind with you, it's not something he enjoys or feels is necessary. Heâd rather hint at the consequences of your actionsânot just for you, but for your friends, your family, and anyone involved in your escape.
Chrollo strikes me as the type who would rather make someone fear what could happen than actually carry out a punishment. He might feel like that method provides the best results? Less disobedience and more compliance, without completely breaking someone? Who knows.Â
Anywayssss. Your fear about being punished for trying to escape wouldnât surprise Chrollo, he already expected that. But you trying to seduce him would be very surprising, he never expected that. Heâd hide his surprise and confusion well, barely letting anything showâmaybe just a brief change in his body language, but that's all. Considering the kind of man Chrollo is, he probably wouldnât want you to know that you had actually managed to throw him off guard, and that definitely influenced his reaction.Â
Iâd imagine that Chrolloâs feelings for you would also play a part in how heâd react to the situation. He is attracted to you, both physically and emotionally, and you trying to seduce him would really test his limits. In his mind, he might be imagining fucking you right then and there, thinking of all the things he could do to you. But he knows better than to act solely on feelings, and prides himself on self-control. During your time together, Chrollo made sure he never crossed any lines with you, understanding the importance of appearing gentlemanly, composed, and caring. He knew that making you feel uncomfortableâmore than necessaryâwould do little good, so he carefully maintained his image. As selfish as it sounds, he did it for himself more than he did it for you.Â
Chrolloâs also very smart. It wouldnât take long for him to realize that youâre probably only trying to seduce him so you can avoid being punished. Heâs seen people do all sorts of things under the right amount of pressure, but this might be a first. The fact that youâd try to manipulate himâand in that specific way tooâwas amusing. But he wouldnât stop you, no, heâd rather sit back and observe for a bit, probably contemplating how to deal with you.Â
If Chrollo does decide to âentertainâ your attempts of seduction, it's because he wants to, not because you succeeded in seducing him. Maybe heâd play along because he wants to see just how far youâd go? Maybe heâs been feeling a little pent up lately, and this is the perfect opportunity to satisfy his needs? Either way, Chrollo never does anything without a purpose.
In this case, Chrollo would use the situation as an opportunity to teach you a lesson. Donât expect much leniency from him. Running away was a betrayal, and thatâs not something heâll forget, or forgive easily. Still, he canât help but feel slightly impressed with how you handled the situation. He knows youâre scared, but instead of giving into your fearâlike he wouldâve expectedâyou made a cunning move, attempting to manipulate him. And it might have worked, too, if you werenât trying to manipulate him. But that tiny bit of respect you managed to gain doesnât mean youâre off the hook from being punished. Â
If Chrollo does decide to punish you, he wouldnât be overly cruel with it. Fear can be a great motivator, but he wouldnât overdo it. He doesnât want to traumatize you, no, that would only cause more problems for him in the long run. Instead, heâd opt for something subtle and far more effective, something very intimate. Chrollo is no stranger to using unorthodox methods of punishment, and he wouldnât hesitate in the slightest to employ them if they served his purpose.Â
Chrollo would intentionally draw out the situation, allowing you to touch and kiss him, while using that sweet voice of yours to whisper some cock-hardening words into his ear. Heâd be patient and play along with your gameâcalmly responding to your advances with some of his ownâmaking you think that youâre winning, but youâre not, and you never will.Â
He gives you just enough rope to hang yourself with. Heâll let you take the lead, at first. Heâll remain almost passive, his dark eyes tracking your every move, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. Itâs a test. Heâs giving you the rope, watching with detached curiosity to see how youâll hang yourself with it.Â
As you're whispering all that filthy shit in his ear, pressing your body against his, he doesnât just passively take it. He actively rewards you. He plays along. He doesnât just passively let you grope him. That would be too obvious. Chrollo is a master of performance. He commits to the role.Â
As your hands tremble while unbuttoning his shirt, heâll cover them with his own, steadying them. Heâll lean into your desperate kisses, meeting your frantic energy. It feels like acceptance, like he's being won over. Heâll let out a soft hum of approval, a low sound in his chest that vibrates against your lips, making you think, itâs actually working. He is doing the bare minimum to give you the maximum amount of false hope.
When you kiss his neck, a low groan rumbles in his chest. When your hand slips down to grope the front of his pants, his own hand comes up to grip your hip, pulling you closer. âIs this what you want?â heâll murmur, voice like silk. âTo be close to me like this?â Heâs giving you positive reinforcement, at the bare min, meticulously crafting this illusion that you're actually getting to him. He wants you to feel like youâve successfully manipulated Chrollo Lucilfer.
The flip. The goddamn switch. This is where it all changes. It happens when youâre at your most vulnerableâwhen heâs finally inside you, deep and warm. Youâd be riding him, thinking youâve won, that this is your escape from punishmentâmoaning his name, nails scratching down his chest, convinced your little seductionâs got him wrapped around your finger.Â
No big dramatic moment, just a shift in his grip, his fingers suddenly clamping down on your waist to pin you in place, halting your movements mid-thrust. Heâll hold you still, fully impaled on him. Youâre balancing on the edge, pussy clenching around him, so fucking close, and he just... stops. His eyes meet yours, that calm detachment back in full force, a smirk curling his lips as he says, casual as anything, âyou didnât really think Iâd let you off that easy, did you?â
âDid you really think this would work?â Heâll ask, his hips giving a single, slow, thrust thatâs devoid of any genuine feeling. Heâll start to move again, but the rhythm is all wrong. Itâs too fast, too shallow, or too brutally deep, designed for his pleasure and your discomfort. Heâll watch your face, your desperate expression, and his lips will curl into a mild smirk. âYou ran from me,â heâll whisper, each word punctuated by a rough shove of his hips, rolling into you.âYou betrayed my trust.â Thrust. âAnd you thought you could fuck your way out of the consequences?â Thrust. âHow naive.âÂ
This is where the real cruelty comes in. Heâs going to use your own body against you. Heâll fuck youâwith his fingers, his mouth, his cockâand he will be an expert at it. He knows exactly how to drive you up, how to make your breath catch and your toes curl. Heâll pull out just enough to use his thumb to grind mercilessly against your clit while he fucks you. Heâll drive you to the absolute brink, your whole body convulsing, begging to come. Youâll be sobbing, pleading. And just as the wave is about to crash over you, heâll stop everything. Completely. Heâll pull his thumb away, still his hips, and just hold you there, impaled and trembling, while the orgasm withers and dies inside you.
âPatience,â heâll murmur, leaning down to kiss you sweetly, a horrifying contrast to the torment heâs forcing you to endure. Heâll do this over and over again. Bringing you to the brink, then snatching it away, until youâre sobbing, a desperate, incoherent mess, begging him to just let you come. Heâll let you recover for a moment before whispering, âletâs try that again,â and start the entire agonizing process over. Leaving you in a constant state of wired, overstimulated agony.
He overstimulates the fuck out of you after the edging, not letting up even when you finally cum, slamming into your oversensitive cunt until youâre writhing, tears streaming, body betraying you with orgasms that border on painful.Â
In the aftermath, Chrollo doesnât gloatâheâs too composed for that shit. But the way he holds you close, stroking your hair while your bodyâs still twitching from the overload, itâs clear. This was his plan all along. You feared punishment, so he gave it to you wrapped in the sex you offered, ensuring youâll think twice before trying to escape or seduce your way out again.

warnings: slight yandere vibe to Chrollo and Illumi, mentions of sex
Kurapika
-honestly heâs been wanting to bring up the idea of trying for a baby but didnât want to put that burden on you until he had more time on his hands
-so it was a nice surprise to hear you were pregnant! He started crying, putting his hand over your belly and crouching down to kiss it.
-he waits on you hand and foot for your entire pregnancy. You want a snack? Heâll get it for you. Youâre sore? Heâs massaging you.
-if youâre not married yet he makes sure a ring is on your finger as soon as possible once you tell him youâre pregnant. Youâre his, and he wants it to stay that way.
-canât get enough of your baby bump. Heâs always caressing and kissing it, keeping a hand on it when youâre sat on his lap.
-he just canât believe heâs created life with you, and tears up just thinking about how his mother would have wanted to see her grandbaby
Illumi
-he already made it clear that having children was one of your duties as his wife. After marrying you, heâs been stuffing you full of cum every night heâs home.
-when you give him the news, heâs calm, nodding as he calls up a doctor. For the entire pregnancy, a team of doctors and nurses is kept on standby, ready to examine or care for you. Youâre giving him an heir after all, and an heir to a Zoldyck is worth more than gold
-youâre out on a strict and healthy diet, not allowed to skip meals or complain. He wants the baby to be healthy, and more important for you to be safe. Illumi doesnât show it much, but he loves you in his own way, and he shows his love by controlling every aspect of your life to ensure youâre safe and taken care of
-of course youâre given lavish presents and pampered for carrying his baby. Not like you werenât already sitting in the lap of luxury, but now itâs dialed up to a ten
-heâs always been a bit possessive and controlling, but now you never get any time away from him. Illumi is always by your side, and takes off of work for your entire pregnancy. He wonât admit it, but he gets severe anxiety and paranoia when you arenât in his line of vision
Chrollo
-chrollo never really wanted children. Heâs lived a pretty selfish life, and didnât want to involve a child in it.
-but when you tell him youâre pregnant, he feels strangely⊠warm. Telling you to get rid of it doesnât cross his mind. Instead, heâs preparing a nursery and trying to find a home to settle you down in.
-He never thought heâd be a father, but now the very thought of losing you or the baby fills him with dread. Chrollo has this weird fantasy of having a normal life, one without the lingering trauma of his childhood, where he can truly enjoy being a father without it being tainted.
-but reality was cruel. His trauma caused him to be protective, treating you like a caged bird. Even before your pregnancy you hadnât had many freedoms, but now you were stuck in a single room, doing the same thing every day. You woke up, got a check up from some doctor, ate, slept, did bits of exercise, then slept.
-sometimes he wondered if you hated him, hated what he had done to you. But heâd watch you smile faintly as your fingers traced your baby bump. You knew he was just scared, and would tolerate it.
Feitan
-he literally looks at you like youâre crazy and says to get rid of it. Bluntly.
-when you start to tear up he freezes. Oh fuck, you were being serious.
-now heâs stuck comforting you as he tries to comprehend the fact heâs knocked you up and that you want to keep it. Is he ready to be a father? Hello no. Will he step up because he loves you.
-fuck. Yeah, he will.
-he hates getting teased as he steals baby clothes and diapers during heists, but relaxes at home when you waddle his way. Surprisingly, he⊠does thing your baby bump is cute. He has a soft spot for you anyways, and the thought of a little one growing inside of youâŠ
-heâs really gone soft.
-he still steals things and kills people, but now heâs thinking about the future and trying harder to stay uninjured in battle. He has a lover and child to come home to, he couldnât possibly leave you all alone.
Leorio
-he freaks out when you tell him. Leorio knows very well that pregnancies can be hard on a womanâs body, and honestly heâs terrified that itâll hurt you.
-once he finds out itâs over for you. Every single morning before he leaves for work he gives you a check up, monitoring your morning sickness and making you eat and take your vitamins.
-heâs taking you to the hospital he works at weakly for exams and checkups. If he doesnât heâll go ins and with worries about you and the baby.
-Leorio starts saving up, wanting to make sure every little thing the baby could ever want or need is neatly stored in the nursery before they arrive.
-heâs very lenient with you, and folds every time you give him those teary eyes and ask for chocolate. Youâre so spoiled and you know it
Summary: Your mind is consumed of the soon to be fight between Chrollo and Hisoka. All you can ask for now is a bit of reassurance that your boss will win unscathed.
Silence lingers throughout Chrollo's penthouse, the loud traffic muffled due to the height of Heaven's Arena. Distress floods the room, similar to how bloodlust can fill up a space. With a frown tugging on your glossy lips, danchou shakes his head, his raven hair smacking his temples. Chrollo wasnât surprised, he knew this emotion would be unavoidable.
Hisoka's goal to finally fight the Boss has been granted. After many months, even years of Hisoka lusting over this fight, it's eventually come to fruition. After all of his chasing, convincing, and the hunting.
Your legs were crossed and you were digging into your nails to clean non-existent dirt, obviously trying to distract yourself from the inevitable. Outwardly, all the preparation made by Chrollo and the rest of the troupe didnât manage to calm your nerves. Not even in the slightest. Maybe a promise from Chrollo could ease your bones, that he would return safely, and unmarked.
"There's the man of the hour." The long uncomfortable stillness broken with only a few simple words.
In walks Chrollo, the same as ever, with the same serenity he's always had, with the same purple fur coat that you've spent long hours cooped up in. His ebony hair down, framing his chiseled face, just like the day you two first met.
"As happy as always, Y/N?" The words filled with sarcasm, yet his tone was soothe, accompanied by no lace of humor.
Heavenâs Arenas velvet wingbacks are felt up by sweaty palms, the fabric being tugged on as a way to escape the discomfort. Boss sits down in front of you, quietly exhaling as he makes contact, a round table seperating the two of you.
Out of his fur, he pulls out a thick book, peering down at it, making you reminisce all the days the troupe were together, Chrollo sitting front in center, reading. You missed it; especially realizing it may never happen again, not after today.
"You donât need to worry,â Chrollo speaks up, his puppy eyes still turned down to his book. âI intend to win.â
You sigh harshly, eyes roaming all over his pacific face. The book still in his hands, the table still blocking the title.
"I know, I know... Itâs just.. Like, what if you donât?â The words were hard to say. Chrollo was a tough tool, but Hisoka was always considered Chrolloâs equal. A hard label to reach, it made you even more nervous.
âDonât win?â
Chrollo finally peaked up from his book, his face still calm. Nothing screamed frustration, anger, or even disappointment.
âItâs certain I do, Y/N. All the time I spent running, was just preparation to defeat Hisoka.â
Heâs right. He did much preparing, and by much, you mean much. He even got a few of the spiders involved.
âYeah. Yeah, youâre right.â You reply, nodding your head desperately.
âBut what if Hisoka did just as much preparing?â
Chrollo shakes his head, finally shutting the book, the pages fluttering.
"He mightâve. But you know he canât compare, and he knows that too.â
The conversation was finished with a neatly wrapped bow, the sly dig didnt miss your ears. Chrollo was a confident man, like always. Although your nerves werenât cleared, Chrollo cleared your doubts about the outcome. Every conversation you have with him always makes you grateful that he is the head of the spider.
Chrollo stands, the book now placed deliberately on the table, its title still hidden from view. He rounds the table, his steps measured and quiet, until he's kneeling in front of you, his hands gently taking yours. The warmth of his skin is a stark contrast to the cool silk of your dress.
"Y/N," he murmurs, his voice a low, soothing rumble, "my victory is as much for you as it is for the Troupe. Have a little faith, hmm? I always return to you, don't I?"
He brings your hands to his lips, pressing a soft kiss to your knuckles. The gesture is both comforting and unsettling, a reminder of the man beneath the leader, the lover beneath the strategist. You want to believe him, to trust in his strength, but the image of Hisoka's twisted grin flashes in your mind, and the fear returns, sharper than before.
"Promise me," you whisper, your voice barely audible. "Promise me you'll come back."
Chrollo's eyes search yours, and for a moment, you see a flicker of something akin to vulnerability. But it's quickly masked, replaced by the familiar confidence that defines him.
"I promise," he says, his voice firm, resolute. "I will come back to you, Y/N. That is a certainty."
"Now, if you'll excuse me," he says, "I have a battle to prepare for.â
With a final, lingering look, he turns and walks towards the door, leaving you alone with your thoughts and your fears. The silence returns, heavier than before, broken only by the distant roar of the crowd, a constant reminder of the impending storm. And as you sit there, waiting, you can't help but wonder if his promise will be enough to bring him back to you.
Chrollo wouldn't be the type to wear his yandere tendencies on his sleeve. He's more the type to mask his creepy obsession with what seems like admiration and love. Deep down, he's totally studying you: your fears, your desires, your little quirks, and how you act. And I'm 100% sure he'd slowly but surely cut you off from your friends and family, making you think that no one else really cares about you the way he does. He'd also get super violent if he thought anyone was a threat to you. He's incredibly overprotective and jealous. Because he's basically memorized everything about you, he's convinced you're the perfect woman, almost like a religious figure in his life. And he'll totally try to mold you into that idealized version he has in his head.
Side-quest to this headcannon before continuing my domestic Chrollo fic <3
-I need someone to agree with me when I say that Chrollo is the type to do quick, small pecks in public.
-You be hanging with some of the phantom troupe while they're waiting for news from the others. You're laying your head on his shoulder, holding his hand in yours.
-Then suddenly he raises both your hands and briefly places a kiss on the back of your hand before resting it on his thigh.
-A small smile finds his lips as you attempt to hide your blushing face from him. He brings you closer by the waist and gives you another kiss on the top of your head.
-The rest of the phantom troupe just looks away after seeing this display of affection HAHAHA (shizuku hit me up pls)
-In another scenario, you two just finished date night and he walked you home. You turn to him to say goodbye but he gently grabs the sides of your face inches closer, giving you the sweetest peck on the forehead. (RAHHHHH)
-He pulls away for a few seconds as you look up at him, your face burning up, he leans forward and you close your eyes anticipating a kiss. A few seconds past but you don't feel anything, so you open your eyes and his just there smiling AJHFJAHFJ then swiftly (but smoothly, hehehe) kisses your cheeks.
-He's very respectful so kisses on the lips won't be happening until you fully trust him to do so.
I'm going feral y'all, I love writing wholesome moments with his man. Also artworks are not mine, I'm trying to find the artists so I can give proper credit cause these are WOW they are so good.
Feel free to send requests for headcannons or fics you guys want me to writeee. I'm not the best tho so excuse any grammar mistakes wahahaha

Chrollo watched as the two of you left. His heartfelt apologies were deflected by Feiâs icy demeanour. âDarling?â, his voice hoarse, âIâm sorry-â. âShut itâ, Feitan carried you in his arms, âOne more word and I swear-â. A glimpse of anger shot through Chrolloâs heart, but he knew it was misplaced. âI respected youâ, Feitan softly added before he left with you in his arms. âHer stuff-â, Chrolloâs words died out as he caught a hint of Feitanâs anger. âShe said she doesnât want anything that reminds her of youâ, he held you close to his chest. âWhere are you going?â. âAs far away from you as possibleâ. âIâll look for herâ. âAnd you wonât find herâ, Feitan gritted his teeth; trying to keep his voice steady.
âIâll kill themâ, Chrolloâs eyes went dark.
He didnât want to be like this; to make you hate him even more but what choice did he have? He didnât want you to leave. Was he selfish? Yes. But on top of that, more than everything, he felt worried. He couldnât leave you in Feitanâs hands. What if he couldnât protect you? What if something happened to you? No. You were safe here.
âWho?â, Feitan froze as his grip around your frail body tightened. âHer familyâ.
Your heart dropped to your stomach. It didnât matter that you hadnât seen them in ages; that they treated you badly. None of it mattered. You werenât going to face that mountain of guilt.
âYouâre bluffingâ, Feitan gritted his teeth. âAm I?â. âFei?â, your eyes darted upwards.
You both knew that you werenât going to leave. It didnât matter how badly Feitan wanted to get you out of there; how badly he wanted to see you happy.
âYou sure?â, Feitan looked down at your lifeless eyes. âYeahâ. Feitanâs shoulders slumped unwillingly as he now turned back to Chrollo. âDonât think Iâll leave her alone. Not even for one secondâ. Chrollo held his hands next to his head before heading upstairs. âI donât care what you do as long as she stays hereâ.
The two men didnât even care to ask for your opinion. At least not out loud. They knew what you were thinking, what you were feeling, but it didnât matter. They understood that you werenât going to take any chances. Not when it came down to the safety of your relatives.
â-
âNot againâ, your digits glided over the rough curtains. âWhat?â, Feitan lazily lifted his head from his pillow. âChrollo⊠Heâs arriving with even more flowers than yesterdayâ. âHmâ, Feitan hummed. âWaitâ, you squeezed your eyes, âHe canât be seriousâ. âWhat?â. Now Feitanâs interest was also piqued. âT-there are people with him-â. âWho?â, he practically jumped out of bed. âT-theyâre all carrying flowersâ. Feitan narrowed his eyes as he tried to read the situation. âWhat the hell is he doing?â. There was this unexpected sharpness in his voice. Your brows unwillingly drooped along your eyes. It has been three weeks now, and everyday Chrollo had this entire charade of flowers ready in the morning. It started with the door to your room, then it expanded through the entire hallwayâŠ. Yesterday, he even had the entire staircase laced with lilies and roses. âWhat? Youâre not going to forgive him, right?â, Feitan narrowed his eyes. âNo, of course notâ. However, the slight hesitation in your voice didnât go unnoticed. âIf you just agreed to let me take care of things, weâd be out of here alreadyâ. âYou canât keep my entire family safe-â. âWho cares about them? They didnât treat you rightâ. âThat doesnât mean they have to die because of meâ. âTsk, you know they never even cared to look for you, right?â. âIâm not going to let them die, Feiâ, you tore your eyes away from the window. His crescent-shaped eyes seemed cold and unbothered as usual. âYou want to stay here, donât you?â.
His question felt as if someone punched you in the gut. You didnât want to stay here. Why would you? No. Youâd never forgive Chrollo for being so cruel to you. Never.
You looked at Feitan with disappointment in your eyes. âDonât look at me like thatâ, his voice softened as he pulled you close, âCome hereâ.
â-
âY/N?â, Chrolloâs voice softly called out from the other side of your door. Feitan lazily looked at you; not even caring to put down the book he was reading.
Feitan hadnât left your side. Not once. He noticed all the efforts and unheard apologies Chrollo had thrown at you, and by now, he knew perfectly well you were going to ignore him.
âYes?â, your voice fragile as porcelaine. âWhat?!â, Feitanâs eyes widened as you walked to the door. Your steps featherlight.
Silence.
âIâve got you somethingâ. Chrollo tried his best to speak up. He hadnât heard your voice in so long. To him, it felt as if an angel was talking. âFlowers?â. There was no hostility in your voice whatsoever. Feitan wanted to bang your head to a wall. How could you be this stupid? Nonetheless, he didnât intervene. âSomething elseâ, his words died out. âJ-just leave it in front of the doorâ. âI canâtâ, his voice had never been so gently. Your hands hovered over the doorknob. Your mind twisted. âDonâtâ, Feitan suddenly towered over you; his grip on your wrist tight. âI-i want to know-â. âDonâtâ, his tone stern. Your brows pulled together as you broke free from his grip. âTskâ, Feitanâs eyes went round in anger, âLittle brat-â. You ignored his anger as you slowly opened the door. Chrolloâs eyes, on the contrary, went round in awe. It had been weeks since he saw you up close. You were no longer a ghost to him that appeared every so often in the corner of his eyes. No. You were standing in front of him; as beautiful and graceful as ever. His hand wanted to draw to his chest as his heart skipped a beat. âI-is-â. âO-oh yesâ, he carefully handed a kitten to you. It was as white as snow with big, blue eyes. âIt reminded me of youâ.
You studied the tiny creature as you carefully pulled it close to your chest. It was wearing a pink collar with a beautiful, golden heart in the middle.
âPlease, treat it rightâ, his voice horse as his eyes studied your expression. âIâve already bought everything it needs. Fei can get it on the table in the kitchen. Y-you can choose where you put everything. Its food is underneath the sink-â. âThanksâ, Feitan coldly intervened as he pulled you back by your nightgown and smashed the door shut.
âWhat the hell, Fei?!â, you looked up at him. âGive that to meâ, his hands reached for the kitten. âN-no!â, you turned away as you held it close. âI wasnât askingâ, Feitan angrily grabbed your shoulder. âI want to keep it!â, you raised your voice. He tried his best to bite his tongue. After all, as long as you were happy⊠âFineâ, he shortly answered, âWhatever you wantâ.
â-
âTskâ. âWhat?â, your smile just as wide. âYouâre going to forgive himâ. âW-what, no!â. âI can see itâ, his eyes glided to the kitten. It had been a couple of days since Chrollo gave it to you. Since then, the conversations between you and Chrollo grew longer by the day. âIf he hurts you again-â. âYou wonât be here, yeah yeahâ, you sighed as you finished his sentence. âIâm not going to forgive him, okay?â. Feitan watched as you picked up the kitten and held its nose to yours. It was an endearing sight, but the fact that Chrollo was winning you over wasnât.
âY/N?â, his voice rang through the door again. âYes?â, you practically ran to the door earning a cold âtskâ from Feitan. âWould you like to join me for dinner today? And Feitan too, of courseâ. Feitan knew he was only an afterthought; a pawn for you to agree. âNoâ, he immediately intervened. âW-waitâ, your heart softened as you noticed Chrolloâs tired eyes. What if he really changed? What if he wasnât as cruel anymore?
âI said noâ. Feitanâs tone didnât change. Your heart was torn. You knew Feitan was right. You shouldnât join him for dinner after what he did to you, but you cared about him. Even after everything. Itâs not like this was the first time he had acted cruel. Besides, Feitan hurt you in the past too. Both of them had treated you equally bad. Sure, theyâd changed a lot but stillâŠ
âWeâll join youâ, you looked at the white ball of fur in your arms. âWhat the-â, Feitanâs eyes grew wide. âNo, weâre notâ, he now walked towards you. âFineâ, your defiance grew by the second, âIâll join you thenâ. âAre you sure?â, a small fire of victory grew inside Chrolloâs chest. Feitan noticed the smug look Chrollo tried so hard to hide. âI wonât let herâ, his eyes locked on his former friend. âSheâs a grown woman, you know?â. That smile. You recognised that smile. Chrollo was enjoying this. âYou want to join him?â.
It was a simple question but you knew what Feitan was really asking. The confusion and disappointment in his eyes was obvious. He wasnât asking if you want to join him. He wanted to understand you; to understand how you could hurt him after everything.
âYesâ, you softly answered; avoiding his gaze at all costs. âFineâ, his shoulder lightly brushed against yours, âEnjoyâ.
You didnât dare to ask where he was going or if he was coming back. Besides, for some reason your heart had grown too stubborn, even though your mind was fully aware you were being unreasonable.
Chrollo patiently waited until he heard the front door being slammed shut. It was only then that he cleared his throat. âIâll be waiting for you. Itâs fine if you change your mindâ. âN-no, Iâll comeâ, you hastily replied. The corners of his mouth curled upwards. He had you right where he wanted you. After all, Chrollo knew you like the back of his hand. There wasnât an ounce of hesitation left in your heart. You missed him, despite everything heâd put you through.
The atmosphere felt tense. Chrollo was sitting in front of you; slowing cutting his steak.
âWhatâs wrong? Did I overcook it?â. âWaitâ, your eyes went round, âYou cooked this? Are you serious? You never cookâ. âI wanted to surprise youâ, a hint of mischief in his eyes.
It was true. He loved you now more than heâd ever done, but that didnât mean his character had changed.
âHave you named it?â, he broke through the silence. âW-what?â, your eyes still wide in awe. âThe kittenâ. You watched as his digit stroked over the edge of his wineglass. He was up to something. Youâd grown too smart for his tricks but⊠âK-kitty, just Kittyâ. âHmâ, his eyes darted you yours. âWhat?â, you frowned. âNothing itâs just⊠Itâs a boring nameâ.
Your mind darted back to Fei. You initially wanted to name the kitten Stella, but Feitan didnât like it. He didnât like the name one bit.
âI wanted to name it Stella but Fei didnât like itâ, your eyes fixed on your food you had yet to touch. âStella? I like that nameâ, Chrollo kindly smiled, âBesides, I gave it to you, didnât I? You can name it whatever you wantâ. âI-i know, you pulled back, âBut Fei is important to me. I value his opinionâ. âRightâ. Chrollo tried his best to hide the defiance in his eyes; to mask it as best as he could. âThen why did you agree to have dinner with me? He didnât seem to like-â. âI shouldnât have agreedâ, you interrupted coldly, âI shouldâve left with him that dayâ. âBut you didnâtâ, Chrollo smirked, âYou know why?â. âBecause Iâm an idiotâ, you replied with venom. âBecause you know youâd miss me, this house, your room⊠Youâve grown to like it hereâ. âI had to! You didnât gave me a choice!â. âHave I said anything over the past couple of months? You left this house whenever you desired to, with whomever you liked. You couldâve gone back to your family. You couldâve even decided to run, but no. You decided to fuck Phinks because the two of us werenât enough. Out of all the things you couldâve done, you decided to break my⊠our trustâ. âY-you-â. âDarlingâ, he gently waved his finger in the air, âDonât you try to deny it. Youâve hurt my feelings. Fei could only get over it because he was so angry with meâ. âT-thatâs not⊠I didnât agree to this dinner to get scolded atâ, you shoved your chair back.
âScolding you?â, Chrollo tilted his head. He knew his manipulation was starting to pay off. Yes, he did love you now but he was still Chrollo, head of the Spiders and a born manipulator.
âY-youâre blaming me-â. âYes, Iâm blaming youâ, his eyes followed your every move. âBecause havenât we given you everything you could ever dream off? Clothes? Jewellery? Bags? You even had the love of two men, but it still wasnât enough for our little minx. No, she had to fuck another member of the Spiders. Tell me, darling. Should we organise a meeting where you can spread your legs to every other male member of the troop? Will you be satisfied then?â.
His words were harsh. Just as he intended to. Heâd been so kind to you over the past few weeks; so patient. He knew you wouldnât dare to disagree with him.
As expected, you stayed quiet. Not even daring to look up from the ground. âDonât worry, darling. Iâm not mad at you butâŠâ, he gently pushed his chair back. You could hear his footsteps draw nearer until his soft hands gently brushed over your shoulders from behind. âI expect you to be kind to me tonightâ. âYesâ, you almost whispered. You knew what he was implying; what he asked of you. âGoodâ, he gently took in the scent of your hair and his heart was ready to burst. He missed you. More than he could take.
You noticed the unexpected kindness in his voice. The sudden shift in his aura.
âLetâs watch a movie together, cuddle on the couch⊠Iâll even give you a foot massage just⊠Just sleep with me tonight. I hate to fall asleep without you. Without your soft touch, your sweet scent, your cute sleepy noises⊠I miss you, darling. Please donât leave me alone againâ, his arms wrapped around your waist and pulling you close. âH-huh-â. âI was mad at you but I get it now. I really doâ, his voice soft. âW-what do you mean?â, you slowly turned around. âYou didnât have the love of two men. You only had Feitanâs love. I didnât love you, not really but I do now. I promise you. I love you. I love you more than my Spidersâ.
You stared at him. Scanning the soft features of his face for any hidden lies; any hidden agenda that might be to your disadvantage.
âPlease, Y/N. Iâll change. Iâll be whatever you want me to beâ.
Chrollo had planned to take advantage of you again. Thatâs why he wanted to manipulate you into feeling bad; to do whatever he wanted but this feeling of love. This idiotic and overwhelming feeling to give you what you wanted; to make you happy⊠It stood in the way of everything. It made him soft.
âCome hereâ, you gently cupped his cheeks, âYouâre everything you need to be. You always were but you can be so incredibly cruel. I-Iâm scared of you, Chrollo. You realise that, right?â. âN-no, donât be scared, I wonât ever do something like that-â. âYou promised so many things-â. âA-and I gave you everything I promised!â, his eyes full of desperation. âAnd you broke it every single timeâ, you lowered your eyes as you took a step back. âPlease, Y/N. Letâs just forget about this. J-just hold me like you used to-â. âI canâtâ, your voice cracked, âI donât trust you anymoreâ. âY-you can trust meâ, he took a step forward. âY-you have to gain my trust back againâ, you took a step back in response. Chrolloâs heart dropped to his stomach but he couldnât argue back. This sickening feeling of love made him understand you more than he ever did.
âFineâ, he forced a smile, âIâll make you trust me againâ. âI-Iâm going to call, Fei. I want to know where he isâ. âRightâ, Chrollo nodded as he turned away, âIâll be in my study if you need anything. And donât worry. Fei never left the houseâ.
âW-what?â, your heart raced. âYou can be so foolish sometimesâ, Chrollo chuckled, âYou really think heâd leave you alone with me? He only pretended to leave even though he knew Iâd easily see through his little game. He just wanted to know if you were going to forgive meâ.
âAnd have you?â, Feitan suddenly appeared behind you. His aura a lot less patient than Chrolloâs.
âN-noâ, you looked at the ground. You had grown tired of the games the two of them kept on playing. âIâm going to bedâ. Feitan followed behind you like a magnet. âAloneâ, you looked over your shoulder, âI want to be aloneâ.
notes: chrollo is yandere, although the fic is lighthearted. the biggest warning is the fact that chrollo looks like he'd listen to the smiths /j, another bigger warning is that reader is an avid the smiths hater. im not tho, all for fun. female reader.
 âDaydreaming again, I see?â
It would be a lie to say that Chrolloâs voice isnât at the slightest bit pleasant to hear. Itâs soft and smooth, but accompanied with a confident low timbre that you think might be the source of itâs charm.Â
You often wish you both donât share a language to speak over, so whatever he speaks would be foreign yet pleasant gibberish in your ears. And maybe youâd be able to close your eyes and sleep. Youâd be able to treat him as the background noise of some radio host talking about something as mundane as todayâs newest dramas.Â
You donât find the need to chase the impossible ideal this time. One doesnât need to be a linguist expert in order to know no malice or warning is present in his voice, though one might need a bachelorâs degree and over four decades of experience in psychology to know he truly means nothing behind his calm demeanor.Â
You sign yourself to a fate youâre unsure of, and though itâs foolish, thereâs nothing you can do anyway. Youâre stuck with him, in a moving four-wheeled compartment, thatâs also stuck in traffic.Â
âThe musicâs good.â Is all you say, and he hums in understanding.Â
Silence falls over the two of you again.
You almost brought back the colorful reverie you were in before he decided to interject, until he reached for his phone to change the music. Oh, bluetooth, the convenient technology you are. His phone is located on the right of his steering wheel, far away from your reach. If he had reached for the audio system you wouldâve been (maybe) able to slap his hand away.Â
âHm, Iâd rather you pay attention to me.â The lilt in his voice is unmistakable. And you almost gag, was that an attempt in flirting? Blegh. Â
âIâll just stare at the cars,â Headlights and astigmatism can make a good duo, you remind yourself.Â
Chrollo hums again, You can almost laugh, so being stuck in your own daydreams and practically doing nothing is unacceptable, but staring at cars is alright?Â
You stare at a car, observing the way the light that emits from itâs headlights become blurry in your sights, they almost take shape of stars in your opinion.Â
So you set your sights on a particularly small black car in front of you, must be a Toyota or Avanza or something. You canât tell, itâs got four wheels and headlights, so itâs a car. You could care less about what it is. That is why you werenât all so interested when Chrollo took you a look into hisâŠ.Rolls⊠Rolls what? Oh, right, Rolls Royce. Itâs a fancy one, you can tell. He was exuding quite an air of importance when he was leading you towards the high-end vehicle located in the restaurantâs parking lot, there were some on-lookers around that spot that expressed interest at the car. It means something when even people of the middle-upper class are showing interest.
Whatever ego that had probably swelled within Chrollo mustâve popped like a balloon, or so you hope, because you did nothing more than give him a thumbs up before letting yourself in the passengerâs seat. You also didnât miss the way he was preparing to tell you about the carâs compartments and specialties that made it cost years of labor. Ah, youâre certain he didnât gain this vehicle from labor, though.Â
Fancy car or not, everyoneâs equally stuck in this traffic.Â
Fancy car or not, doesnât determine that the song played inside the compartment is free from your judgment or not.
âWhat song is this? You ask, although you know the answer. You somehow need an assurance that he is lucid.Â
âPlease, please, please, by The Smiths.â He says, pleasant with his song of choice.Â
What an ironic song and artist of choice.Â
Itâs harder to hide in a cackle than a scowl, youâd almost forgotten. Any voice you let out threatens to come out as sharp laughter and any breathe you intake threatens to become a wheeze. You could hardly contain yourself.Â
âOhâŠâ Is all you say before pausing, afraid anything else you will say will turn into a rowdy session of laughter. Unsure if you should speak further or not. But the inquisitive look he offers you somehow serves as a push rather than something that usually wants you to further seal your lips shut in fear you would say the wrong thing and earn his silent ire. Itâs far, far harder to hide a cackle than a scowl, but months of training yourself to hide certain expressions whenever Chrollo is around has paid off. âWhat about Frank Sinatra?âÂ
Chrollo smiles. Is he delighted that you find interest in one of his favorite artists? Though heâs never said it outloud, every long night drive has its silence filled with at least one Frank Sinatra song.Â
âWould you rather I change the song, dear?â He offers. And you would say yes, but this is one of the rare, rare moments where you are given the opportunity to take a jab at him. Although itâs nothing as deadly as anything a leader of the Phantom Troupe has faced, you wonât kill him or even hurt him for very long. But you are willing to do anything, at this point.Â
You feign the most pleasant voice you can muster, âHm⊠Thatâs not really what I meant. I just didnât think youâd listen to The Smiths.âÂ
He lets out a small laugh, âReally? I have always listened to older songs around you, I suppose. I wouldn't say I like it⊠Hm, but itâs an interesting band.â
   So he does like it!Â
âWhy do you think so?â You inquire further before adding, âDo you like this song a lot?â
âAre you intending to interview me, (Name)?â Chrollo cocks his eyebrow, but it is only meant to tease you.Â
âMustâve picked it up from someone.â A relentless pursuit, you press on further, âOkay though, but answer my question.âÂ
Silence falls over him, as if he were in his own state of thinking so deeply, but you know itâs mainly a pretense. Whatever he wishes to say after, you know it mustâve been something he had thought of before. In any other situation, this silence often serves as to let a dreadful situation simmer in your mind. But this time⊠Ah, youâre quite unsure.Â
Chrollo finally speaks, âIâll answer you of course.â The smile he gives you is anything but nice when you are very much aware of the condemnation those same lips bring you, âOn the condition youâd kiss me after.â
âOkay.â To his surprise, you agreed rather quickly. If thatâs the sacrifice you need to make, then so be it. A kiss to soothe his soon-to-be sour, scorned face!
He is satisfied, you can tell. He puts his elbow against the steering wheel, resting his face against his palm. âI donât know why youâre suddenly interested, whatever designs you have in your head⊠Hm, Iâll know of it soon.âÂ
No one fucking asked damn. You internally deadpanned, impatience is gnawing at your throat. He reminds you of how youâd write your essays when you have to reach a certain minimum word count by relentlessly dragging around a topic and beating around a bush so much that you end up writing a novel rather than an assignment. Ah⊠To make him anything alike to you doesnât sound very right. Whatever, you digress.Â
Chrollo finally, finally starts. And youâre excited, elated, jovial- ah every synonym of the word happiness comes into mind. You can put any thesaurus at shame by now. âI remember the first time we met, you called me something of a hopeless romantic. At that time, I had only laughed because I found the sentiment rather off. Such nonsense. Me? An idealist of love? Love has always been a tool for me. You could only dream.â
You cut to the chase,âMhm, although youâve found a contradiction because you actually enjoy those sappy songs right? Okay, whatâs next?âÂ
âYou know me very well (You smile, excited). But that's not all (you frown, deflated).â Sweet, saccharine drips off of his voice. âIâve never paid attention to such things, not for myself at least. I donât ârelateâ to those kinds of songs. But ever since I met you, it felt as if the world had shifted for me.âÂ
He doesnât stop, and for once you are glad he isn't, âMy world has shifted and taken a hole in itself, one that has been carved into the shape of you.âÂ
It is interesting how he is able to muse so freely about you, in front of you. Where is the shame and decorum?
âAnd I do quite like this song, in all honesty.â His gaze meets yours, and grey eyes bore into your soul. âIt really does remind me of the one I love so dearly.âÂ
Please, please, please, let me get what I want⊠Those lyrics loop in your head over and over again. You should be sick with the abundance of affection he has for you that makes you seethe. And you would claw at the leather seats, avert your gaze, and try to block him out as much as you can. But tonight, you feel fucking amazing.Â
  You can barely handle it.Â
âDude, come on,â Your voice is off by an octave and you swear you can burst. Chrollo on the other hand finds satisfaction melting off of his face over the term being used to refer to him, outright calling him a bastard or a monster might be better. You make it a mental note to call him âdudeâ more. âThe Smiths is for losers.âÂ
   âŠ
   âPardon?âÂ
âThe Smiths is for losers.â You repeat yourself before adding, âItâs for guys who canât get any, for guys who waddle in sadness for something they canât get, guys who are always up their own ass. Condescending guys who are secretly insecure, manipulative guys, guys who play guitar and get sad then do weedâŠâ You are kind enough to give a long-winded further explanation. Chrollo does not share the same sentiment.Â
Chrolloâs countenance seems unchanging at first, but it is not a waste, for you saw a split second of confusion, then something of offense written on his face before it smoothes out into the uncannily still expression he always wears. His lips open, then close, as if heâs mulling over an answer.
âAre you insinuating I am that type of person, dearest?âÂ
"I mean if the shoe fits...? Well, what do you think?"
He sighs like itâs obvious, âThat you made the wrong accusation over baseless data.âÂ
âIâm not accusing you of anything!â You hold your hands up in mock defense, âJust telling you something everyone kind of agrees on. Things donât have to be written in numbers or books⊠Sometimes itâs just a consensus. Everyone and their mom agrees on it."
You are relentless tonight, so you continue again though Chrollo prompts nothing from your newfound talkative nature tonight, something youâre sure he would actually love in a different situation.Â
âThese are the kind of guys girls avoid you know? People call it something of a warning. Like, âavoid guys who listen to The Smithsâ. I donât mean to generalize or anything, but guys who listen to songs like that donât end up to be very well in the head. And I also donât mean to believe rumors but⊠WellâŠâ You cough awkwardly, but itâs meant to deliver an unspoken message you know will only further test his ire. But you think you have had enough fun for tonight, you donât wish to turn the night sour for you after all.
   âŠOr so you thought.Â
âSo Iâm just trying to say that you should treat me a little better, you know what I mean? Iâm putting up with a lotâ Everything you say here are meant to be a 50% insult, 30% jab, and 20% jokes. But the last thing you said, you canât lie and say that you hope heâd take further thought on that. You yearn to hopefully be able to get out of the hotel room that serves as your grandiose cage more, and when you do, you arenât being watched by an unknown amount of eyes that you know trail on to you by the shadows. That is all you wish for, really. That is to say, you can only wonder what his standards are for âtreating you betterâ.Â
Ah, the smile he has on his face is different from before. This one is a sign that your fun is coming to a quick halt.Â
âSo thatâs what youâre getting at? Resourceful little minx you are.âÂ
Why is he sounding so delighted over your insults, is he a masochist? Is he stupid? Itâs your turn to cock your eyebrow.Â
âHave you enticed me in this long-winded conversation simply because you wanted to be treated a little better? And the way you had agreed so quickly to that kiss⊠" He puts a hand to his chest, a mockery of an apology. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didnât mean to be so blind to your need for affection. You've gone through lengths to communicate your need, I'm very grateful."
You let out a humorless laugh, âPardon?â He is just truly-! Argh, whatever! âDid you not hear anything else I said?â You make sure to enunciate your words properly, afraid he might have some sort of hearing problems, well he does and youâre certain it has a name. What was it again? Oh right, an unfortunate combination of delusion and selective hearingâŠÂ
âI know you tend to turn a little childish when you canât get what you want. Thatâs not a quality many men like either. So, be a little kinder to me, wonât you?âÂ
âWomen donât usually like mass murderers either. Anyone in their right mind, actually.â
He hums, âThat orange container of pills by your nightstand says otherwise. Not the best defense, try again?âÂ
âYou'd have some too, you just don't have any because you don't go to therapy."
âHm, keeping up that attitude wonât make me kiss you any sooner.âÂ
âThen Iâll gladly keep this attitude!âÂ
Unfortunately you donât. Youâre angry enough to have the energy to spew a million insults at lightspeed against him, but too angry to form a coherent thought that youâre certain would give him a decent jab. And to be frank, youâre rather spent. When you (reluctantly) asked Chrollo what time it was, thankfully he gave you a proper response. A quick tap of his phone showed that it was two and a half hours above your usual bedtime. The clothes you have arenât the most comfortable either, while itâs not short they certainly expose areas where the wind would have too much fun dancing over.Â
Traffic is clearing as you can see the hotel you are both staying in come into view. You relax at the sight. You can almost feel the warm bath you will be soaking yourself in, what scent will you choose tonight? Rosemary, lavender⊠Ah, you can smell them already. You prompt to close your eyes for a moment of rest, but you find yourself sleeping on the rest of the way back.
You feel fingers combing your locks stirring you awake, theyâre Chrolloâs, obviously. Although you are half conscious, you recognize that scent of sandalwood and amber anywhere, as much as youâre ashamed to admit it.Â
âDo you want me to carry you?â Chrollo asks, and you murmur something in between a noise of annoyance and a ânoâ. He chuckles at this sight. âAlright then.âÂ
He gives a soft peck on your lips, itâs warm. You almost lean in when the warmth of his lips leave yours, this half-conscious state gives him a moment of your vulnerability he has set his eyes on, the one he relentlessly pursues after so much. But you know that even when he has a grasp at your vulnerability, it wonât stop him from digging for more. Greedy, ruthless man that he is, he will never stop.Â
âYou are absolutely precious, you know that? Even if your mouth tends to run without careâ Is that condescension or admiration in his voice? Pity, you canât tell in the state you are in. Youâre drunk from the lack of sleep and the future victory you have in mind.Â
âBefore I answer thatâŠâ Your voice is barely above a whisper, Chrollo merrily leans in closer to hear you. Your lips ghost by the shell of his earâŠÂ
  âŠ
âName five songs from The Smiths. Are you like an actual fan or is it just FOMO?âÂ
   He just sighs.Â

(Yan) âChrollo, why were you crying before? âŠ.Are you alright?â
tags: gn reader, yandere, chrollo being big sad and a little bit unhinged
In the dark shadow of the room, you could almost convince yourself that Chrollo is praying as he glances up at you. Sat hunched on the bed, elbows resting on his knees, hands folded against his forehead as his dark eyes open to meet yours. It would be a funny thought, if it wasnât so unsettling to see a man of his composure unraveling before you.
For a moment he says nothing, and you wonder if you shouldnât have said anything about it at all. If you should have stayed in the bathroom and pretended to busy yourself in the shower for another half hour. It feels almost violative to witness him in this state. Your hand itches to flip the switch of the bathroom light, plunge the room into darkness and wipe the image of that expression from your mind.
Chrollo stands and crosses the room in just a few short steps. His hands find rest on the curves of your cheeks, thumbs meandering along the lines of your face.
âIâve lost someone very important to me,â he says. âSomeone I should have been able to protect.â
His eyes are sad, too sad for a man of his kind. Itâs wrong on his face, wrong on his body, for someone whoâs caused so much grief to be crumbling under the weight of it himself.
âOne of your friends again?â you ask.
âYes,â Chrollo answers with a sad smile. âOne of my oldest friends. And there is someone on this boat who is determined to take more from me.â
Your stomach churns nauseatingly. You arenât sure if itâs the motion of the sea or the man in front of you causing it. Chrollo pulls you into his body, pressing his forehead against yours. He looks at you like he wants to absorb you through his skin. Catalog every detail, every sight, sound, and touch of you in the library of his mind. It feels too much like heâs bracing to lose it. To lose you.
âI see now that Iâve been an idiot,â he says. âArrogant. An arrogant fool. I didnât understand how close I was to losing all of you.â
Nausea. Cold, creeping nausea. You want him to drop this unfamiliar act, to become the strong and unwavering force he has always been to you. He canât be weak. Heâs made himself into the only support you have, and he canât be weak now.
Something sharpens in his gaze.
âBut I wonât make the same mistake again. Iâve been weak before, in a long distant past. Did you know that?â He smiles at you as you shake your head. âNo, and I wonât be again, now or any time in our future.â
His hands tighten around your face.
âI will be anything, become anything, do anything it takes to keep what belongs to me.â
Nausea. Nausea. Your hands press against his chest in a weak attempt to put space between yourself and this man you donât recognize. He canât be this now. Fraying at the ends. He has to be your only constant. Your strong and unbroken constant.
At the pressure on his chest, Chrollo seems to find himself again. The edge in his eyes softens and heâs looking at you again like youâre his favorite dog, shivering while the thunder rages just outside your shelter. Firm hands press your face into the warmth of his chest.
âChrollo, please. Youâre scaring me.â The tremble of your voice muffles into the fabric of his shirt.
âDonât be afraid, love,â he says. âNothing is going to to take you from me. And if he tries toââ his breath catches with a wave of emotion. The fingers in your hair tighten.
The air around you becomes thick with something powerful and suffocating, something cold and cruel that makes your joints lock and skin prickle. It fades as quickly as it comes, and Chrollo breathes slowly, deeply beside you. His hand caresses your hair in slow strokes, an imitation of comfort that does more to ground himself than to sooth you.
âIâm sorry. I shouldnât cause you to worry about this.â Warm lips press into the crown of your head before he tugs you away from his body to look into your eyes. âYouâre safe with me. You always are.â
Thereâs a knock on the door. He leaves you to turn and pluck his coat from the bed, taking the warmth of his body with him, and you are left standing in the chill of the room with cold skin and damp hair.
âIâll only be gone a moment,â he says. âDry yourself off quickly. Weâll be moving rooms again tonight.â
He steps into the hallway where another voice greets him, and the door clicks shut behind him.
Your hair is dripping onto the tile beneath your feet. Chrolloâs voice fades into the depths of the hallway, further, further, until itâs gone.
