And he does get a sword. One crafted on a different planet made with a black blade and a sturdy hilt, the guard fashioned to look like a serpent. But he does get something else, too. There's a smaller box handed to him and a carefully made little stuffed sparrow. Simply an ornament for him to add somewhere he'd like, but something she'd wanted to put together no less. "There we go~. Do- do not tell y'er baba that I got ya another sword, though. I think he'd say 'm spoilin' ya more th'n him."

Yanqing happily hugs his mama, having always been an affectionate boy. He then accepts the gifts. One is easy enough, he knows a sword box when he sees one.
As expected, the sword is amazing and he spends quite some time taking in the details of the sword. It's an excellent sword.
He then opens the second gift and smiles at the cute little sparrow. It makes him think of the sparrows Jing Yuan like to feed.
"Thanks, mama, and I promise, I won't tell."
Jing Yuan will, of course, find out anyway. Plus, he, too, end up gifting their son a sword.
