Chris Ofili is an English painter who lives and works in Trinidad, London, and Brooklyn. His paintings are known for their vibrant palette and technical intricacy, often involving collage and untraditional materials such as glitter, resin, magazine cut-outs, and notably, elephant dung. Born in 1968 in Manchester, England Ofili received his B.F.A. from the Chelsea School of Art in 1991, and his M.F.A. from the Royal College of Art in 1993. His early works were more abstract, and he is better known for his figurative work where he employs sexual, historical, or religious references to investigate and challenge racial stereotypes, while celebrating black culture. #chrisofili Image: Chris Ofili by Stephen Gill (1999)
