I think it's allowed for a musician to be a little self-absorbed and arrogant, but I think Chris corner's solo career is the proof that even if you're an inspired, creative and unique person it's good to have a band that tames your ego and keeps you grounded. I can't imagine how horrid a Brian molko solo career would've been. Every day I thank God we never got a Brian molko solo career. And even though the first years of iamx are kinda cool and chris seems to really find himself as a stage performer, you can clearly see the worst parts of his personality taking over and I need to try to remove his current persona from my.mind in order not to retroactively ruin sneaker pimps for myself

"It's about death in a small town environment," Chris Corner of Sneaker Pimps said in his Songfacts interview. "You grow up in this s--t town and you yearn to get out. A lot of artists, we just can't survive in a place like that. So, the essence of that song is that living in a small town is like dying.
For us it was a huge release to get out and to explore the world. To see what everything else is about. We all wanted that. You know, the northern industrial s--thole. And that's really what that song's about."
The small town where Corner grew up is Middlesbrough, England, whose famous sons include Chris Rea and Paul Rodgers.
