because bulbasaur is first in the pokedex, usually when people start the “im gonna draw every pokemon in the pokedex!!” missions that are usually destined to trail off halfway through kanto they start with bulbasaur

somewhat related to bulbasaur, its final evolution (aside from its mega forme) is venusaur, who was on the cover of pokemon green. pokemon green was only released in japan (along with pokemon red. they used pokemon green instead of blue which was how it was released in the u.s.) and is notorious for hilariously wonky spritework. the spritework was fixed up for international releases though
