And in order to make them happy he keeps on trying different things to impress her, and that requires giving them extra attention.

Zoob definitely doesn’t understand the extra attention and is more so annoyed by it than anything, but also understand it lets ‘em get away with things like talking back just a little or staying behind from adventures.
