PROM - EVERY GIRL'S CINDERELLA STORY (My thoughts)
A special friend just asked me what the big deal is about PROM. Why do they bother about their dress, the first and the last dance, extravagant bouquets, decors, great food, or worst food, a perfect night and so on and so forth. She inspired me to write this. So I would like to acknowledge her first. Thanks Chloe for asking me this question. (http://chloestar.tumblr.com/)
So what is the big deal about prom?
I believe that it is every girlās dream to have a Cinderella story, or somewhat like it, at least. Of course, there is no prince charming to sweep you off poverty or a fairy godmother to turn pumpkins into limousines and your pet hamster into your Chauffeur. We all know thatās all in books and movies and there is no Christian Grey in real life, okay?
But there are but 3 moments in your life where you get to have your dream come true.
Yes, folks, prom is one of them. And here are the reasons I can think of.
For oldies like me, remember the time when you used to be crushing on a classmate of yours, or someone in Senior Year? And you hope that somehow heāll notice you? Well, in PROM, sometimes they really do. Prom is an excuse to dance with that guy or girl and everyone seems to be in a joyous mood to not pop your bubble. Know what I mean? For once in your life, you can actually hold hands with him/her legally, feel like the dance is meant for you, and that the both of you belong together in that single spark of a moment in the dance floor. If youāll get to dance with them that is. xD
Some people get a major overhaul makeover when prom arrives. Is anyone familiar with the āwho-is-sheā? when prom night arrives? You know, you find some guy or girl whom you never knew existed in your school in your JS PROM. And in just one night, they are rocketed into stardom. You never know that thereās just an ugly duckling waiting to shine somewhere in the dark corners of your school library.
3. HOLLYWOOD STARS and GRAMMY AWARDS
By gosh every Filipino just loves to gossip about stars, donāt they? And I donāt mean the Big Dipper or Orionās Belt.So whatās the difference when you can become the star of the night for just a night. PROM is a chance where you can showcase your talents. Be it, dancing, singing, acting, modeling, or perhaps even drinking *wink*. All of you feel like youāre walking down the red carpet in expectations of an award.
Letās face it, everyone thinks they are better than everyone else, and PROM is a chance where you can actually show off that 300,000 thousand dress your daddy bought you. Or your great grandmotherās diamonds. Yes, yes, PROM DRESSES are what girls are really excited about. If you are a girly girl, you know what I mean. If you are a spoiled brat, get your dad to rent you a limousine.. Hmm I remembered my bro and cousin who rode his dadās 2 door Benz to Senior Prom. If youāre a loser in some way, and you can be ASTIG for one night, why not? Btw, I wasnāt implying that my cousin is a loser. Love you.
We rule the school! PROM night is the night where students are the leaders of the school. It is the only day where teachers give way, or leave you to do what you want. Isnāt it? You can spike that punch for all you want, cause I know the teachers want it, too. They enjoy themselves , really. And think about their own Cinderellaās Dream. Or reminisce about their own PROM.
Everyone just loves to dance! Even if youāre as bad as a dancer as I am, which I really have to warn you, I wreck havoc when I dance, you just couldnāt help it when PROM arrives. No one really cares how you dance since theyāre busy thinking that everyone is caring about them. (A good advice, huh?) So just bust your own move.
And for the first and last dance?
The first is the most important. IF no one asks you to dance, you may end up leaving prom disappointed. Believe me, the first dance is the most important one. So if you see some lonely girl or guy by themselves, kindly donāt hesitate to ask them to a minute of dancing.Cause like dominos people are sure to follow. And the night would be incredible for them after all.
And the last dance. Ah.. The last dance.. We all want it to be with someone special. I didnāt say it has to be your crush, bf or love one. It could be with your dad/mum you know. Itās just that special dance. The final dance where you can forget everything since your Cinderella dream is about to end. Just enjoy the moment. Keep it in your heart, or mind, for it is yours forever.
So donāt let anyone spoil PROM for you. Do what you want, wear what you wish. It is your own Cinderella Story Night after all. ;)
