She knew him since they were little kids and was his only friend for a good while. Even after she turned up a spoiled little brat Adrian still liked her company and she truly cared for him in her own emotionally constipated way(she threw him a birthday party and invited all of his friends)
If they haven't murdered her character development after season 2 their relationship would have become one of the strongest and she's honestly the one of the only people who can stand his blind stupid ass.
Marinette only liked his as a celebrity in the start and even if they developed a strong intimate connection it still sours the relationship because she knew much more about him before they even met than Adrian knew about her.
